I notice that the summary for the group says it is accessible only by members, but it is still registered as open to public access. Not sure how these things work yet. Just a question mark rolling around in my brain - it's a small question mark. Take care. Vern

Hey, that means if I publish something and it sucks, I can blame it on the glitches. I think of it as an extra added bonus, lol. Take care. Vern

The read menu is cool in so far as it goes with book covers and all, but there simply aren't enough choices on a page. Perhaps if it would scroll through say fifty or so works per page as opposed to what, a dozen or so, then it would be so much more efficient to check for works which haven't just been published when you decide to log on. It is a pain to have to click through so many pages to get to a point where you are comfortable that you've already seen all those works listed before - you don' feel like you missed something just because you weren't able to check in for a few days.

It's kind of the same argument from the old site where everyone wanted their work listed on the front page and didn't want to take time to go to the "read and review" where lots of works were readily available. Limiting the works to so few listed on the first page only encourages people to adopt the same habit/mindframe which is counterproductive imho.

But, hey, the site just opened and we can't expect everything to be perfect for everyone at the outset - or at any point. Still some bugs, but I'm getting more comfortable all the time. Good job to date. Take care. Vern

PS: Wheee, all the delays are finally behind us. Just a little more patience for the bugs, folks.

K, Vern,

We can blame it on the Henny. wink

I've just posted ch 9 of Genesis. I'd love your comments. Bald-faced request, here. I pulled an all-nighter (my usual m.o. when I'm actually in the zone), so i'm hoping it was worth losing sleep over...

Any Podgers wanna stop on by ch 9 and tell me whatcha thinkin?

Thanksssss....!

smile

Actually already read it this morning . I most always read it through before starting my review and then go through again to make notes. I will get to the review pronto. Take care. Vern

Looking at it now, I don't think this is actually the ideal system and I am going to simplify it. Once you pay points to post it in one credit group, you can post it in any other credit or free group.

Sol

Sounds good. Thanks sir. smile

Sol, I agree it sounds good on paper, but I'm not quite clear on how this change is going to work. As I understand it, at present each group can decide what "credits" if any are required to post within that group. So if the above change is made does that mean one could post something in a very low credit group and then it is also posted in all other groups for no additional credits even though other groups might require more credits for posting? Inquiring minds want to know. I can see it is going to take some time to get all the wrinkles ironed out. Good luck. Take care. Vern

Hi, GP, I think I left the wrong impression for the opening of ch 1 in my inline review. I've added a remark inline to hopefully clarify my thinking. I'll blame it on this new avenue letting us zip through comments and allowing my fingers to type faster than my brain operates. I'll be more careful in the future. Take care. Vern

With a nod toward GP's nostalgic photos of Gleason and Carney, I recommend TO THE MOON as an apt name for the this group - classic in all ways. Take care. Vern

Well, GP, seems like my in-line review went to chapter 1 instead of 8; wondered why we were back at the beginning, lol; got to really watch what I click on this new site til I get the hang of it. Well, anyway, I'll get to the right chapter here shortly barring any more snafus. Take care. Vern

Hey, Vern! Welcome!

Okay, so you revised chapter 8 and it cost you points? Or do you mean you re-published it? There's a difference, I hope. And I dunno what Vern is talking about with the group that doesn't charge points to post thing. I haven't quite wrapped my mind around the idea of "groups" yet.

Cheers

If you use more words in your edit, then it will cost more points, whereas previously you could add as many words up to the limit without costing any more points; ergo, some (intentionally or not, might post a very short piece costing very few points and then go back and edit it into a very long piece without paying those extra points and also not giving the full credit for those who reviewed it after the revision since they were reviewing a lot more words and only getting credit for reviewing the much shorter original - if that makes sense.

The group thing: You can form a "group" just as this and within that group (you can leave it open to anyone or restrict membership according to your whims) you can choose to charge points for publishing works for review and give credits for reviewing or let members publish and review for free. Yeah, I don't know how it's gonna work either; seems like there will be a lot of divided attention, but who knows.

That's my take anyway. Take care. Vern

Hey did you look at my revised ch 8? I added stuff, and was charged points to edit here. Don't know if you get any points to re-read but I tend to doubt it....

wink

I didn't notice the revision until you pointed it out; thanks. Yeah, I think I got a fraction of a point, but that doesn't matter, would've done it anyway for free. You know you can actually post it to a group (you could start one or join another) that doesn't charge points to post if you wish. That way you wouldn't have to wait on earning the credits to post. Just a thought. Take care. Vern

Oh, btw, I like the poltergeist image; fitting - the brown stuff not so much, kinda the way I felt after being plugged up for four days after my surgery, lol. Take care. Vern

Well, I don't know if you did it right since I found my way in anyway, lol. Okay, so is this going to be the official thread to continue the march into the record book. I'm subscribing just in case. Take care. Vern

Edited for PS: If you want more public participation, I think this thread should be in the general nbw group rather than a seperate group; for what it's worth, but then don't really know how things are going to spell out on here.

Good to see things up and running after the long winter, lol. I seem to have trouble uploading a cover for my book. It finally uploaded on the beta site, but now it won't upload again since it was erased when the new site came on line. I'll keep trying. Also along that line, I never could get the title, fonts, colors, etc. to work with the cover. I won't create covers for all my works, but I hate to have to resort to the default cover or no cover for those I wish to emphasize. Take care. Vern
