Topic: Reposting for points

Sol -

On the old site, whenever we posted a major revision of a particular chapter, we had the option to "repost" instead of simply updating the chapter. Reposting allowed reviewers who had seen the previous version to earn points in exchange for reviewing the rewrite. I can't seem to find a way to do this with the current set up, short of deleting the old version of the chapter and posting a completely new chapter in its place.  Is there still a way to "repost" as we used to? When a chapter undergoes major revisions, I think this is a nice way to compensate reviewers for having another look.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Reposting for points

Karin, use the "add chapter" workflow to add the new chapter to your book with the desired chapter number and version number. When you get to Publish step, there will be a green Publish button next to the new chapter in the list. Use that button to publish and make it visible; reviewers will receive points for reviewing the new chapter. FYI, you can make the old chapter inactive if you want to so that it won't appear to your reviewers. Making it inactive (rather than deleting) will still allow you to access the reviews associated with the old chapter. Or, you can leave them both up if you want people to compare both versions.

As far as I can tell, there's no way to publish the same chapter with identical chapter and version numbers as an existing chapter. Assuming you want to use the same chapter number as an old chapter, simply increment the version number for the new chapter. That works.

I don't know if there is a way to publish a new chapter with identical chapter/version numbers as an existing chapter unless you delete the old. Sol would have to weigh in one that.

Hope that makes sense.

Re: Reposting for points

Dirk is correct. You just post the revision as a new chapter and increment the version number. For example, say you want to put a up a new version of Chapter 3. You might already have Chapter 3, v1. Just post a new version of Chapter 3 with the changes and make it Chapter 3, v2.

You will not change the old chapter. Instead, you will post a new copy with the changes and increase the version number.

This allows you to preserve the older version and create a new one that reviewers can earn points for and that also goes to the top of the queue. Once you do this, you can decide to keep the old version live or deactivate it.

Re: Reposting for points

I wish I had seen this yesterday before I copied and pasted the revised chapter ontop of the old chapter - ooops!  Well, now I know.  Thank you for clarifying the process!

Re: Reposting for points

It's all learn as you go. Especially how to not only post chapters, but also reviews and how easy it is to respond to reviewers.
