Topic: Group Cleanup - Mopping Up - See List of Surviving Groups Inside

Following the crash, the restored site is back to 90 groups, most of which aren't used. We were down to about 10 groups after the cleanup done many months ago. We'll have to redo the cleanup, which included deleting unused groups, combining and/or renaming some of the groups that remain, and assigning new moderators, where needed, for those groups that remain.

If you created a group or are a member of an actively used group that you would like preserved, please repond to this thread with the name of the group, to ensure it doesn't get deleted.

I joined this group 'The Fantasy/Magical Realism/Folklore Group', made 2 posts and had no replies, but had 14 views on each post. So, I don't know if it should be combined with the 'The medieval fantasy/ magic Group'. The titles seem pretty similar.

The groups I joined went inactive years ago, except for the Romance group. I'm still a member there.

Basic
Premium
Romance
Thriller/Mystery/Suspense
Fantasy/Magic/Sci-fi - currently still called medieval fantasy/magic
Young Adult/New Adult
Spirituality & Religion
New Novelists -  I'm going to combine this with New Members and called it New Authors
Writing Tips & Site Help


Are there any other existing groups people would like saved? Think about which groups you post work into and which group's forums you use.


Is there any interest in keeping any of these groups?

Historical Fiction
Memoir
You Read Mine, I Read Yours
New Members - I'm going to combine this with New Novelists and called it New Authors

Historical Fiction seems pretty dead, but I hate to delete it. Would it be possible to add it to the Fantasy/Magic/Sci-fi group? So, we need a huge fiction group that encompasses everything. Is that possible?

I don't think there's a need for a group that encompasses all fiction since most of the site is fiction anyway. Although most of the groups are dead, I figured it would be a good idea to have a few potentially appealing groups around for new members to find/use. I think Historical Fiction and Young Adult/New Adult would be good ones. The latter should probably include stories about vampires and werewolves since those generally appeal to a younger audience. I'd love to combine Historical Fiction and Literary Fiction, but I can't think of a good reason why those should be together. High Brow Literature, perhaps? :-)  Or simply delete Literary Fiction for now; someone can recreate it if they want it.

Only the Dark Tales group will be truly new. We can add to the above list down the road as needed. However, since we can only each belong to ten groups, no one will be able to join them all, which means we'll need volunteer moderators to keep a collective eye on the groups as a whole.

Please add to this thread if there are any of the above you would be willing to moderate going forward. I know groups can have more than one moderator, although I don't know if there's an upper limit. Based on past experience, being a moderator really only involves keeping an eye out for problems and welcoming/guiding new group members, who are usually new site members as well. However, it assumes you'll be onsite often enough to serve in that role. Ideally, we should have at least 2 moderators per group.

I'll probably be a moderator for most of them initially, at least until I can finish the post-purge cleanup steps. I don't have the cycles yet to kick that off, and I haven't even approached Sol as to when he might have time to redo the mass purge.

In cases where two or more groups are being "combined", that really just means we'll rename one of the existing ones (to give it its new name) and then delete the other ones.

Minor tweak: "Dark Tales" will be "A Dark & Stormy Night." I suspect most people who see that group name are likely to check it out, if for no other than reason than curiosity about the title. Naturally, the description for the group will give more detailed info about what the group is for.

It's called A Dark & Stormy Night. I was able to create that one myself. It's basically a scary tales group (Gothic, vampires, werewolves, demon-possessed rabid nuns, etc.) For most of the other groups listed above, we need to be moderators, so I'm waiting for Sol on that. The group's image is AI generated. I told it to give me a castle on a stormy night. I had to repeat it several times, but I finally got one I liked.
