Topic: How about a group contest?

Sol--
Would it be possible for an individual group to sponsor a contest? We've done it before, and I'm thinking it must have been a hassle for you, but I'd like to try again. Instead of a monetary prize, perhaps we could offer a number of points, or a quarter's membership. Do we have any tee shirts? (Maybe there could be a contest to design a shirt.)

Let me know what you think. Respectfully, JP

Re: How about a group contest?

Looks like my groups' members have a lot going on right now. Any other groups interested in sponsoring their own contest? The newbie groups might want to have their own, and they wouldn't need to fear competition with more experienced writers. Set up your own guidelines and have at it!

Re: How about a group contest?

Why not? I don't do the western thing, but a suspense thing would be good. I get out of school tomorrow!

Re: How about a group contest?

I might be interested. Maybe I could write a straight thriller? Westerns and Historical fiction: I've very little, if any experience with. Please keep me posted regarding this contest:-) Mysteries and mystery/thrillers, I think, are pretty much out of my league; again, very little, if any, experience. We also need to discuss word limit, deadline, etc. Maybe smaller amts of prize money...? Just throwing these things out there.

Re: How about a group contest?

I would say that this should be posed to whatever group (other than Premium) you wish to have that contest within as they are "free" to make their own rules per se. Each group may have their own forums, contests, reviews, whatever. Does it work? Apparently not so well as intended in most cases. Of course that all depends upon the group dynamics. I suppose it depends on the abilities of the moderator and the cohesiveness of the members to maintain the activity over time. However, all other groups I have joined have fizzled over time and it seems to me at least, that they only siphon the vitality of the Premium group as evidenced by less participation in reviews, forums, and contests. Only my thoughts, of course, and I'm sure some may disagree. Hey, it could me. Take care. Vern
