Topic: Contest Prizes

Hello.

I like the idea of having contests. I haven't entered any myself recently, due to other writing projects, but the variety is always fun to see.

I was wondering about the prizes, though. While cash is nice, would it be possible for the reward to be credits? I don't know how others feel about it, and cash is always nice, of course. But rewarding credits wouldn't cost the site anything, would allow for more generous prizes, and for people like me, amassing credits with a well-written contest entry would be a far more rewarding... er, well, reward, were I to win or place. But that's just me.

Of course, I think one could always use the cash to buy credits- if that's still an option.

Anyone else has thoughts?

Re: Contest Prizes

What about turning that around, and make all work belonging to the winner worth double points for a month after the competition? That means you'd get a big increase in reviews for whatever you've published already.

Re: Contest Prizes

You use to be able to buy points from others; don't know if that's still true since haven't checked lately. At any rate the winner might have the option for cash or points. Many have more points than they'll ever use, so keeping the cash option is good. I'll take the cash, lol. Take care. Vern

PS: Just getting more points for reviewing doesn't really work. There are numerous works which would give way more points than others with far more reviews. Even the extra points for the first three reviews doesn't generate three reviews for everything. Just saying.

I like cash. I think something that would be nice in the short story/poetry/essay (Any short pieces) would be a compilation and a small yearly publication with say the top 5 or 10 from each category being printed. # of stories, poems, would depend on how many contests there were. It might not seem like a lot, but the placers would at least have bragging rights.
