Topic: Hello

Hello, feeling nervous about writing sites. I don't find any kind of social media very friendly. Please surprise me.

Re: Hello

Not social media, though there's a fair amount of banter.  We're here to work.  Many of us hope to have fun from the learning and sharing, and many of us do find pleasure in it.  But the center is working together, not hanging out.

Re: Hello

I think you've found the place to be. Welcome!

Re: Hello

This is a serious group, very friendly, with people trying to help people.  Welcome!

Re: Hello

Practically everyone is a bit nervous when entering a new arena, so let those butterflies create a world changing effect with the fluttering of your words. Welcome to the site and hopefully a jaw dropping surprise awaits. Take care. Vern

Re: Hello

Welcome to the site. I've tried several of the "competitors" and I can understand why you might be concerned, but TNBW is NOT those other sites. As njc said, there's not a lot of "social media" aspects here --  it's mainly about the writing. You can spend all your time here publishing your writing, getting helpful and constructive comments and helping others, and just work with a small cadre of like-minded contacts. Or you can do that and interact with more people on the forums. It's your choice and it's a great place to grow as a writer.

It's a little scary to post that first story or give that first critique, but as Nike says, "Just Do It!" That's really the best way to connect. Look forward to seeing more from you.

Welcome Bunny!

Re: Hello

This is a site for sharing writing, not for social chat. Everyone here has one goal --- improve their manuscript to prepare it for publication. It is far more polite than the sites that claim to be writing groups but are more like teen chat rooms. This is not to demean teens. There are teens who are serious writers but the kind of thing I am talking about is where they do little but argue, put down other people's work or present unedited product that isn't ready to be shown to anyone.

Submit, critique, learn, enjoy ... and welcome. This group is more serious than what many of us have experienced elsewhere.

Re: Hello

Hello -- new today!  I'm working on a biography and hope to connect with other writers of that genre. I'm eager to explore and open to participating.
