Sol, I ran a print copy of the inline review that Amy_s recently did of my Sorcerer's Progress Book 1, Chapter 5.  Starting on page four, a number of the comments were missing, even though the text was highlighted.

Fascinating ... it does not occur on the screen version, only when printed.  That's through IE.  The print preview from Chrome shows no such problem.  I'll run the print from Chrome, too.

The print preview on IE shows the problem.  The preview on Chrome does not.  I'll run the Chrome print and get you a screencap of the IE.

Postscript: The IE preview was actually the preview via the Epson driver.  When I take that same preview after the preview from within Chrome, the text shows up correctly.  I'm printing that copy now.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I just accidentally re-reviewed someone's short story and got points for both reviews. The first was a regular review that I had forgotten about, and the second was an inline review. I got points for both, which isn't really correct system behavior. It should recognize that I've already done a previous review and notify me that that is the case.

I can't believe I'm complaining about receiving too many points. :-)

Re: Site Bugs 2

Being able to print out an inline review is wonderful, but I have a question:

On the web page that results when you click the little printer icon, the referred to text is reverse video (white on black). But, when printed on my laser printer, the highlighting is gone. There is nothing to tell me what the comment refers to. A normal inline review box will not only supply the blue highlight, but the top of the drop-down box contains what the reviewer highlighted in italics. Neither that, nor the while on black highlighting is retained on the printed page. Can this be fixed?

Re: Site Bugs 2

I know this has been asked before, but how dang long does it take from the time you publish a chapter until it shows up on the homepage? I know it's been over half an hour. Am I just impatient?

Re: Site Bugs 2

Ha! Just came up

Re: Site Bugs 2

You can cheat just a little, Janet, if you go to your "Publish Setup" and, without changing anything, hit the save setup button. That will make your story appear almost immediately. I just publish and wait for it to appear when it does.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Does anybody else think it would be a good idea to have the newest forum posts on top instead of on bottom?  Most of the forums I have viewed have most recent first in line.

Not really - for me anyway. You can go to the latest post already by clicking on that instead of the topic. For me at least I'm going to want to know what has preceded the last post if I'm not familiar with it. If it is a short list of posts on the subject then I can click on the subject and go to the first one to see what it's all about or at least what it started out being all about as they sometimes change midstream. But if it's a subject which has already received many pages of posts, then I don't really want to read through all of them if I haven't been keeping up; then I'll just click on the last post and go backward until I get the gist of what is happening at the present and not days, weeks, or months ago.

So, in essence you can already start wherever you wish, beginning, end, or somewhere in-between by clicking on one of the page numbers if more than one page. Once I get to the point I want to start reading, then I can read the posts in order from that point without having to scroll backwards which would be the case if the order were reversed. Hope that convoluted explanation makes sense. Take care. Vern

Vern, how do you do that. I typically click on the link that shows up under Visit Your Groups on the home page. That takes me to the first page of the thread. I then have to click to get to the last page and then scroll down to get to the end. Is there a better way?

The email notifications/links telling me that there is something new to read on the site always go directly to the most recent unread post. I'm not sure why the links from the home page don't work that way. That might address Mike's needs.

Thanks
Dirk

If you open the forums say to the premium group, you have a list of the threads started. On the left you have the topic of a particular thread and if you click on that it will take you to the beginning of the thread. But if you go across to the right column under "Last Post" and click on that, then it will take you to that last post made within that thread. Take care. Vern

Another 60-second timeout delay. This time when opening a second tab to the site (I was comparing reviews).

Google Chrome/Win7.

Is anyone else experiencing a false-positive on connection requests? Mine is bright red on my homepage, but after clicking on it, nothing shows up.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Did I miss this small gripe before? When we go from our home page to any of the queued reviews except In-line Posted, the buttons at the top of the review take us directly back to the queued reviews. There are no buttons on top of an In-Line Posted review and you have to back to your home page and start again to see the next one.

I've been having the same problem for quite a while now and up to now, Sol couldn't find the source of the problem. I've tried to log out and in again, maybe you have more luck?

Re: Site Bugs 2

Sol, when I'm on WiFi the video is the last and slowest thing to load on the inline review pages.  If others find the same, you might replace it with a link to the review instead of having it as an embed.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I just got burned by a bug I reported a few months ago. I did an inline review, wrote up extensive closing comments, then clicked on x-line to review my comments before submitting. When I switched to x-line, the closing comments were wiped out. Also, the closing comments field in the x-line review is not a normal formatted text box, but rather a tiny field (about 1" x 2") that is a view into the database itself. I should be able to switch to x-line without losing my closing comments, and the closing comments field should be an appropriatedly sized formatted text box. These two problems are reproducable.

I'd love to know if there's an ETA for these.

Thanks.
Dirk

Re: Site Bugs 2

That's happened to me a couple of times, Dirk. Extremely annoying.

Re: Site Bugs 2

While we are on the subject of comment boxes: why is it that when I put my longer comments into paragraphs they will be mashed together when saved and re-opened?  I put comments into paragraphs for a reason, not to have the all run together. We have 1000 words in those boxes so why not let us use them properly?

Superhero Origins Competition Page

[Bug?] The status of the competition (on the contest overview page) on 18th Sept, says ‘Competition Open’ Whilst the deadline is specified elsewhere on the same page as 13th Sept.
Cheers!

Re: Site Bugs 2

Again I have received an email about a new chapter (Janet Reid's Ch 10) before that chapter is available to me on the website.

My long-distance, blindfold diagnosis is a mismatch between the static aspects of your platform and software architecture and the dynamic sequence of actions--a workpiece/workstation flow glitch that may require explicitly delaying the sending of the message until the web servers acknowledge not only receipt but full processing of the new material.

But that, as I say, is a blindfold diagnosis.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I read so much about being able to delete reviews, I thought I could handle this, but no. One of my reviews was sent multiple times with the message deleted. (Six blanks) But now, when I really want to delete a messed-up review, I don't see the delete option anymore. Was that option removed, or am I looking in the wrong place? Help, please.  JP

Re: Site Bugs 2

I just got bitten by the "miscounted words" bug. I provided a regular review that told me I had 55 words. When I posted it, I received NO points and when I went to the review, it showed 50 words. So, if I had even 50 words, why not the points?

Did you copy and paste anything from the text? It will chop you off after that, if you did.

Re: Site Bugs 2

Nope. This was a straight review, typed all at once and then I clicked the Post button. Before i did that, I was told I had entered 55 words. Then, when I clicked the button, I didn't see the "you received ... points" banner so I looked at the review. It said I had posted 50 points exactly. Apparently, you have to get MORE than 50 words to get points. That, I can live with. It is having the word count drop from 55 to 50 for no reason that bothers me.

EDIT: I've solved the copy/paste problem. What you have to do after you paste is add a single carriage return. Then the words are counted once more and you will have what you need. I do that automatically if I keep track of comments using a text file.

Re: Site Bugs 2

I just did another regular review. The edit box counted 80 words. When posted, I saw it contained 76 words. Somehow, 4 words are being miscounted (and dropped) when a review is posted. But, I looked for what was missing and could not find anything. I suspect some hidden stuff (like a CR or LF) is being dropped.
