Born and bred in Devon, but moved to Kent in 1992 where they still had jobs and stuff. Have been a writer for as long as I can remember. My highlights so far have been writing the lyrics for two full-length musicals that were performed in the US in the late 'nineties, and two short stories that were published as part of 'new writer' anthologies. So yeah - E.L James has got nothing to fear from me. ;) I'm not in it for fame and fortune though - I write because it's What I Have To Do.
Once I discovered having a child renders you unemployable if you can't afford the astronomical costs of decent childcare, I decided to finally take my writing seriously. This is now what I do while my son is at school. Oh, and I even give the house a bit of a tidy occasionally as well.
