Echota Cherokee novelist, short story writer, poet and dancer. Writes about the experiences of Native families and descendants in Tennessee and Alabama. Other favorite topics: Music (rock'n'roll and pop culture. Favorite writers: Sherman Alexie, Adrian C. Louis, Louise Erdrich, Brady Udall, Anne Rice, many, many others, both Native and non-Native. Favorite novels: The Color Purple, Cold Mountain, Gone With the Wind, Interview With the Vampire, anything by Alexie or Welch. Really, too many to name. Fave music: The Black Crowes and anything from the last fifty years that's good! Favorite film actor: Johnny Depp. Favorite movies (other than Depp films): Cold Mountain, Color Purple, Bridges of Madison County, Almost Famous, Dances With Wolves, Smoke Signals, and many others. Particular areas of interest: Native American myth and culture; rock music and musicians; blues music and musicians; The Old West; Southern History; The Civil War. Currently, an MFA candiadte at Georgia College and State University. Have completed one novel, a second on the way, and numerous awards and publications for poetry.
