My name is Amanda Christine Graham Jacobs and I am an African American Woman. I was born in a small southern town or village. We were all surrounded by family, friends, and community members who were all committed to our success. My memoirs were self-published in 2009 and entitled GRANDPA'S HAND: A STORY OF STRUGGLE AND TRIUMPH. This book tell the story of my life from my mid-twenties as a married, pregnant, college drop-out who was encouraged by my deceased grandfather to return to school and complete my education. The story continues through my 30s and mid-40s, when the story is ended. Though the years as a now divorced/ single parent, working full and part-time while pursuing Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral Degrees (1990). My work experience includes serving as a social worker for homeless families, as a school social worker, as a school and district level administrator as well as with the state department of education. I retired at the end of 2006 after serving almost 30 years as an educator from a suburban school district in NJ, where I provided educational leadership for over 90 professional staff members. I returned to rural North Carolina in 2007 and continued to work on my memoirs. They were published in early 2009 by Authorhouse. I then opened a non-profit organization and continue to serve as its executive director. I opened an after school program and provided comprehensive services to children, adults and families in the community. Currently, I am continuing to develop my creative skills by designing jewelry and writing.
