I'm in the final stages of a five year effort to write my first novel: Deadrise. Set on the Chesapeake Bay, it's a murder (maybe) mystery featuring heroine Kat Garrett, owner of a bed & breakfast on the shores of the Chesapeake, and hero Coast Guard Commander Brian McCaffery. Kat and Brian were college sweethearts before conflicting career desires sent them their separate ways. Now, twenty years later, Kat witnesses an apparent suicide jump from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge while she is out sailing alone on a beautiful autumn day. Shortly thereafter, she's at the Annapolis Coast Guard Station filing a witness report to - Commander Brian McCaffery. When Kat learns the apparent jumper is President of an environmental protection group, Citizens for a Cleaner Chesapeake, and a close personal friend, she knows what she witnessed was not a suicide. Her quest for the truth takes her to the romote Chesapeake Island of Tangier, where her friend, Bill Carpenter, was last seen. Of course, Brian comes along for the fun. I live on the Chesapeake and am an avid sailor. The book draws somewhat on my personal experiences and knowledge of and love for the Chesapeake. I look forward to participating in this online community.
