I've been writing about a year now and have recently had two stories accepted for anthologies published by two different gay and lesbian publishing houses. I am working on my first novel, a character driven mystery. My goal is to have a lesbian main character but have the book be about what happens in her life, not about the fact that she's a lesbian. Just as I've been reading about straight people in novels my entire life. It's never really about the fact that they're straight; it's just about them. Does that make me a lesbian writer? Yes, because I'm lesbian and I write. But tell people that you're a lesbian writer and you can't believe the (mostly derisive) reactions you receive. It's crazy. And it's nothing I would ever be anything but proud of.
