I am a huge fan of historical fiction. The kind that captures time and place, allowing you to walk a mile in the shoes of the characters, historical figures and the passers by.
I was born in Russia in 1975. Today my father is 89 years old, and I became inspired to capture his experience of the Soviet Era. My novel begins June 22 1941 when Hitler attacked Russia and my father's family was torn apart. It ends with his flight out of Russia in 1991, emigrating to the New World. Although I am now more fluent in English than Russian, and am all the way an American, I am writing the novel in Russian in order to capture the fabric of the culture carried in the language. I will translate parts as I go for feedback, and will finalize the translation at the end.
