Topic: Sonny

Recently, the daughter of Archie Hooton, known as Sonny on this site, contacted me to tell me Archie had passed away. Suzanne thought that members of TNBW who interacted with Sonny over the years here might want to know that he is no longer with us, and I agreed to post this announcement.

I enjoyed his critiques of my work and reviewing his novel, The Reluctant Spy (available on Amazon). I especially got a kick out of the repartees between him and John Hamler. Witty, literate, and intellectual, he was an asset to TNBW.

Re: Sonny

We will miss him.
Thanks for posting this. I too benefitted from his wise words.

Re: Sonny

So sad to lose one so kind. Thanks for letting us know, Jack.

Re: Sonny

RIP, Sonny. It's a shame many will never receive a review from one of the best.

My thoughts, exactly, Vern.

Re: Sonny

RIP, Sonny.

Re: Sonny

Good man, great reviewer, honest and encouraging. He and Ann Everett reviewed my first novel, THE THATCHER HEAD (no it wasn't about Sharon Thatcher, lol).  I'm saddened to hear this news. I often wonder if and when he would return to this site.  Yes, RIP, Sonny.

Re: Sonny

Very sorry to hear this. Please thank Suzanne for letting us know.

Re: Sonny

This is to inform TNBW friends that Sonny peacefully passed away, in his home, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Our family wishes to thank all of Sonny’s writer friends for the great joy and pleasure they brought into his life, as they shared with him their passion and love of reading, writing and reviewing books, short stories and poems, as well as their personal experiences as authors.  I’ve seen him smile and laugh behind his computer screen on numerous occasions.

Because I have so often heard my father saying nice things about you and have had the pleasure of his joyfully sharing some of your published books, I’ve recently had the honor of contacting and “meeting” a few of you via Facebook and/or email.  I’d like to thank you for your kindness, which has also brought me joy and laughter and helped me in finally letting go of “Sonny”.

Sonny continued writing and checking his internet up to the last days of his life and this helped him tremendously.

May all of you be blessed with continued joy and success in your writing adventures!

Kindest regards from,

Suzanne and all of Sonny’s family

Re: Sonny

From my first day on this sight 8 years ago, Sonny and I became friends.  His critiques helped me grow as a writer, and I loved the banter that Sonny and I shared.  His was one of the first reviews I looked for each time I posted a new chapter or short story.  I am extremely sorry to hear of his passing.  He will be greatly missed.  Thank you, Suzanne, for sharing this information with us.  His friendship was a rare and special gift.

He was a gent. a proper gentleman. I had the same experience in that same era. He was wise and kind and could apply critique without criticism. It was a privilege to have interacted with him. He gave so much more than he took. Condolences to his family and Sonny, may you rest in peace. Gone but not forgotten.
