Topic: Faux connection request?

Hello Sol, my home page shows I have a connection request, but when I click to see who and respond, it says I have no pending connection requests. Curious mind wants to know which page is correct -- the truth will set me free. Take care. Vern

This happens when someone sends you a request and before you can respond, their account is deleted. I suspect this is the same person that Sol's thread is referring to, so there's nothing you can do until Sol can make this go away somehow - he is aware of the issue.

Just for info, the same thing also happens when someone replies to a review and then delete the chapter before you can view their reply - I have two 'permanent' and really annoying red buttons on my homepage that tells me I have a connection request pending and there's is a reply to one of my reviews despite having no connection request and no way of viewing a review of a chapter that has been deleted.

Hope this helps!
Janet

I have this also. Sol, can we get rid of it?

Thanks. I have the same thing. Never happened before. I have no clue who the person in Sol's thread is.

Re: Faux connection request?

Sol is referring to a username, Laranice, that got deleted by him as being spam. I got a request too. In fact, I got three such requests in an hour. I denied all three, so my home page is clean.

I clicked the notice and I get the message saying I don't have any pending requests. Never got a request to accept or deny.

We know this because a few of us were quick enough to decline the request and alert Sol of the account before others could. If not for that, I would've had two 'open ended faux' requests to stare at me from my home page every time I log on to the site (which is daily). smile

Re: Faux connection request?

I'm going to take care of this bug. We'll make sure we clear requests from people who have been deleted. We'll fix it early next week.

Re: Faux connection request?

Yeah.  Database consistency problem.  An entity is removed but ghosts of its relations remain.

Sol, would the processing/storage properties allow the connecion list or count to be re-verified when the user's Connections page is accessed, or would that require too many disk accesses or too much latency?

Re: Faux connection request?

Thanks, all, for the in-put and thank you Sol for the quick response. Take care. Vern

This doesn't sound to good for the bug ... big_smile

Thanks Sol! smile

Re: Faux connection request?

I have one of these also, since yesterday, so it's an ongoing occurrence.

Re: Faux connection request?

I accepted the connection. Is this going to be a problem?

Re: Faux connection request?

I asked the same question in another thread regarding the above discussion on what I now know to be a faux connection request. Glad Sol is on top of the problem. TNBW should be spam-less.

Re: Faux connection request?

I got a connection request from Larraneise and went to the page. No writing, no posts, no comments. I simply deleted the request. Sometimes, a little detective work saves a lot of aggravation. Behind the best fiction is research of FACTS.

Re: Faux connection request?

Thanks, Sol, for taking care of this spammer!  That's why I love this site.

If anyone wants some vicarious revenge on the likes of laranice, Mike Bobrinskoy dishes it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyA5gzqA3nU

Have a good weekend, all!

I also checked her profile page and saw nothing and decided to wait to see if anything would be posted before replying. BTW, many legitimate new members have no portfolio or comments at first. So all the research didn't matter as she was deleted before the real "FACTS" could be ascertained; therefore, the connection request still exists on my home page despite the research until Sol resolves it as promised. Take care. Vern

PS: Faux connection request gone; thanks Sol.

Re: Faux connection request?

Looks like the connection requests have been cleared.  Thanks!
