Topic: Editors?

Is there a section in the forums, either here or in the premiums, for finding an editor?

Thanks!

Re: Editors?

Connect with Janet Taylor-Perry here on the site. English teacher, author, and part-time editor. There are others too. If you can post your request to Premium, you should do so.

Re: Editors?

Try Laura Kingsley. https://laurakingsley.wordpress.com/ She edited my novel Amber Eyes now on Amazon and she did a pretty good job for a fair price.

Re: Editors?

You'd probably get more and better choices if you Google it. You should be able to find one for the type editing you want and hopefully within the price range. I would suggest having them do a sample of a couple chapters or so to make sure it is what you are looking for as there are many different levels of substance and quality running amok out there. One might lean more toward grammar and punctuation where another might be more inclined to focus on plot, pace, transition, etc. You might want a line by line or more of an overview. Good luck. Take care. Vern

Vern!

You have an avatar!

Thanks all.  I was actually wondering is there was a section in the forums for editors.

If there isn't, there should be.

Told you I would get one with the new site or another thousand or so posts whichever came first; the new site barely won only because it had a two year head start, lol. Take care.

Re: Editors?

I would connect and highly recommend Janet Taylor-Perry.  I agree with Norm.  She is upfront, precise and concise.  Definitely my #1 editor.

I have used Jeanne Bannon in the past. She does very good work and for a reasonable fee. If you
want to connect with her send me an email at oldecrow13@aol.com and I'll hook you up with her.
She is also on Facebook.

Re: Editors?

While I agree with Vern that googling up editors is a good way to find many of them, I think it would be nice to have a section here where we share our experience with particular editors. We can share what a certain editor focuses on, how they work, etc. In that way we can approach editors with whom other fellow TNBW writers have already worked, rather than guessing whether an editor fits our needs or not.

Re: Editors?

Gacela's suggestion is a good one. There probably are members who have been burned in the past, and conversely, had great experiences. I'd like to know the good ones, and whether or not I'm being over-charged. Of course, knowing the going rate would be useful. Who could tell me?

Re: Editors?

I suggest contacting the editors listed in this thread (Janet, Laura, etc.) and see if they'll do a sample edit, as Vern suggested. If they don't, you'll have to decide whether to pay to try them out. I chose to pay two editors to edit my first few chapters and was happy with the result. I think I paid $50 for one of them to edit 10K words. The feedback, although encouraging, convinced me I had to start over. :-) I'm glad I tried them out. If you want to cast a wider net, do a few keyword searches online for editors. Also, post your request to Premium if you can. I'm not sure how many paying members are still a part of the Basic group and reading this thread.
