Thanks everyone for listening to the rant--I was swearing in my head loudly so if you heard that too (it's possible) sorry about that. wink

I'm a little calmer today than I was yesterday, so that's good. Not that I have a reason to be, but I can't make myself crazy. It will be what it will be. I live in Texas, so my reps are waist-deep in Trump's ass, so contacting them won't do a bit of difference, although many in my FB groups are doing it. Maddow is a good idea and at least wouldn't fall on deaf, bullshit-filled ears.

I'm not delayed yet, and like Marilyn said, he's interested in keeping his rich cronies in Big Pharma happy, so maybe clinical trials won't be affected too badly. No one knows, least of all the Orange Abomination. But the research in the early early phases is already being affected, along with scientists, students, lab employees, etc. etc. It's a mess but supposedly will resume on Feb 1. We'll see. The ripple effect will have unknown consequences for many people.

One of the scientists on Reddit said it's a DEI thing and projects based in DEI - aka including minorities, women, LGBTQ, rural dwellers in clinical trials since they are underrepresented in research--are being dismantled. Ridiculous and so dangerous. I don't know if that's the whole issue but eliminating DEI from government seems to be a factor. Breast cancer in particular was mentioned since that is often DEI because it affects women *breathe breathe breathe* so who the hell knows what they're doing to that research. *breathe bre...fuck it. I hate the bastard*

I have a foot in both camps when it comes to midterms/future elections... I'm cautiously pessimistic that we'll have more elections and the Democrats will have a shot at the majority in either body. Democrats need to collectively grow a pair and fight dirty and hard--I see no evidence of that happening right now, and until I do, I'll be avoiding the shitshow.

Fingers crossed heads exit asses soon.

I start a clinical trial for breast cancer in 10 days. At least I hope I do. Dumbfuck has frozen all travel, communications, and purchasing in the NIH--you know, the agency that funds 80% of cancer research? Supposedly, it's temporary and not uncommon for brief freezes to occur during an administration change, but according to the scientists freaking out on Reddit and social media, this feels more like a government shutdown.

The implications are astounding if this freeze continues much longer. There are studies already being cancelled, running out of supplies and can't purchase more, and people will die because of the ripple effect. for example, there has been a drug discovered that eliminated breast cancer in mice in one treatment--it is supposed to go into human trials this summer. Do you know how many women will die if there is a delay? It already takes too long to get new drugs approved, now this?

I'm trying not to panic, but if my trial gets postponed or canceled, that could literally take months or years off my life. I'm more pissed than scared at the moment, but this will affect not only breast cancer patients, not only America, but the world if it keeps going.

My cancer groups are going bonkers and it's pretty damn easy to pick out the MAGATs...at least I know who to block now.

Thanks for letting me vent. The FB group admins are shutting down comments.

Carry on. smile

I'm not sure I can contribute to this thread without swearing.

I let my sister deal with the news and ask her what's happening when I'm up to hearing about it, or when I inadvertently see a distressing headline. Like Dirk, the only news I want to hear is of leopards eating faces so I can peacefully bask in the glory of FAFO.

Otherwise, I just want to outlive the motherf*cker so I can hear the words, "He's dead," and experience the happiest moment of my life. By far.

OMG, WHATTA!!!

I was a member here in 2007 or thereabouts under Loretta Meredith and you helped me IMMENSELY with my group of essays. I took a long break from writing after that but rejoined in 2012 and you were already gone. I'm sure I didn't thank you enough back then for your help and encouragement, and I doubt I would've kept going if it weren't for reviewers like you back then. I've written 13 novels so far and working on the next. I'm not active here anymore (health reasons) but I had to pop in and say hello. Hope you see the message!

Aww...another great poem. Brought me out of hiding!

Happy holidays to you and everyone here at TNBW. You're always in my heart!

Hi Maurene,
I always edit as the reviews come in and then edit the chapter on the site. I don't want reviewers wasting their time fixing the same typo over and over again. I also use the 'feedback applied" button to keep myself organized. And this way, if I make mistakes while editing, the next person will catch it.

Hope that helps,
Lauren

Thanks Bill.
The on-stage performance isn't integral to the main plot of the book, except maybe one scene. I had thought full scripts might be fun as a story within a story, but I'm thinking your suggestion about only snippets would be plenty. I'll have to rethink my main story a bit to give the MC something else to do.

Thanks for your feedback,
Lauren

Hello all,

In the new book I'm writing, the MC is in a 1942 radio soap opera. I am planning to write the script like this in the book - (There are only five chapters where the script would be included)

[Gracie]    Oh, Mrs. Pickering. I don't know what to do...

        (sound of dishes clanking)

        [Mrs. Pickering] etc.

My question is, will that get old for a reader? Should I not include the scripts to the show? I suppose I don't really need to include them.  I thought it might be fun to have a separate little story in a story, but I don't know if the format is distracting.

Thanks for any feedback or input, smile

Hi Splatta!

I don't have anything current up now, but I should start posting my new book, Missing in Monrovia in early-mid December. I'm happy to reciprocate in December. Gotta get through NaNoWriMo before I take on anything new.

See you in a few weeks!

Lauren

Fabulous news! Congratulations!

Hi, I'm Lauren ~

Let's get this group going!

You Read Mine...

I have two novels on this site. Murder at the Mansfield is posted in its entirety. There are 37 chapters, about 52K words total, so not too long. I would like to publish it to a group I belong to as soon as possible, but I need a few more eyes on the project. The early chapters have a bunch, the second half of the book, not too many. I'm hoping that's not because it sucks. (I don't think so, but I could be wrong.) My absolute latest deadline is October 1, but of course, I'd like it done sooner.

The second book is the prequel to Murder, and that is Road to the Mansfield. This one isn't going to be released until next year, so I have time, but still, obviously, I need eyes on this one.

I Read Yours...

I will commit to reading at least 3 chapters a day until I'm caught up if you have a work you'd like me to read. If you don't have anything published, then let's get connected so we receive emails about each other's work. If you don't want to be connected, then just send me a quickie and I'll get to your work that day (usually).

I'm not the greatest reviewer, but I can tell you what I'm thinking and feeling when I read the story. I do pick up some nits, but rewriting or rephrasing isn't something I always feel comfortable doing. Let me know what kind of review you're looking for and I'll try to help. I don't do great with Fantasy/Sci Fi, but I'm willing to learn.

Let's get together!
Lauren
