Hi everyone. I'm truly sad to say that I'm leaving tNBW. I've got some things going on in my life that can't be put on hold. Don't know if I'll come back some day, but I will miss you people!
I wish you the very best!

BIG thanks, Sol. Contests are always a good thing :-)
Thanks, Vern. Best wishes for the contest, and hopefully all of us will have a MUCH better year in '21!!!
A horror contest with SPAM being the medium of evil. Maybe the Devil tricks many with SPAM and a super group of anti-spammers is called in. I agree this sounds Scooby-dooish, but more plot points can be added. Not sure 'bout the minimum of words, but the max could be 2500 to 3000, maybe.
Too, everyone who participates in this contest gets 25 points. YAY!
Or comedy horror: people get cursed and become like Ken and Barbie. One-dimensional, too perfect in some ways, but not good for much, overall. Or maybe it's just a case of young, good-looking people being hypnotized and made into mindless lackeys.
Oh, and here's another idea: a gaming contest in which nationally ranked gamers battle a dragon on some ridiculous, astronomical level, and the dragon shoots fire out both ends! This is actually not my ideal, originally. Borrowed/stole from someone else who wrote a soda-spraying-the-pc funny story that featured this wild idea, lol.
Good one, Vern. In fact, your idea might go well with my bizarre one about a centaur being captured by suburbanites. Maybe the centaur, when it's pissed, could fire off those kinds of cuss words, lol.
Thanks. And you said it fine.
That's a pretty cool idea, George. There's essentially no limit to what could be done with that. And I'll toss in something of a curveball: maybe a centaur is spotted and captured in a small suburban town.
Afternoon, Sol. What about short stories and poems about a given number of musicians? Perhaps name four. And the challenge would be to write, in maybe 500 words or less, about one musician. Something compelling, something that would make others say, "Right on!" Lol.
Or simply list only one musician, someone very controversial and talented. A picture or drawing or painting of the musician would, of course, help.
Too, genre or era wouldn't present problems. To simplify choosing, the musician could be someone you like. Chances are very good we'll all agree and even those who don't, I expect, will still be able to write something very cool!
This is just a pie hurled against the storied wall...
Mike
Congratulations to each of you!! Good job. Contests are not easy, as we know, but if enough effort, imagination, and thought are poured into the stories, they'll do well.
CHEERS!!
Mike
Hi Ray,
Sorry for what you're going through. I hope you keep fighting and get healthy again, soon!
Too, thanks for warning us; you're right: we can't be too careful!
Peace always,
Mike
Sorry to hear this, J P. Well, even if you can't retrieve it, I'd encourage you to try and take it in stride. I know what it's like...yeah, it's a seriously bad hair...yet I'm confident you can do as well or even better with a rewrite. Still, I do hope you get it all back; that'll be much easier, of course.
Peace always,
Mike
And I'm quite serious about what I just posted.
Let's make this year, in every part of our lives, the most radical, phenomenal, quaking, rocking year in our lives!!
Party onnnnnnnn!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
Mike
Welcome, Justin and Lisetta. Both of you sound like talented, ambitious writers. Hope each of you fulfills your potential!
Mike
Again, thanks for the invite! Let's introduce ourselves and then see if we can draw in other folks.
I'm 59 years old. Live near Chicago, Illinois. Am an ex-Marine. No college degree; only some credits from a community college. I've been writing with serious intent since 2008, or so. I joined this site, the Next Big Writer, in mid-2013. I'm very glad I did so because I've received a LOT of help!!
My hobbies: exercising, playing with animals, namely dogs and cats. Reading. Writing. Gaming(Lumosity is a favorite site of mine). Conversing. Watching Youtube. I'm also an avid boxing fan.
I work at a grocery store(Jewel Foods). I'm probably going to be looking for another job soon, depending on whether or not my situation at the store improves.
I live in a condominium by myself and I'm not really much of a people person, at least not publicly. I converse over the phone, texting, and thru email, mostly.
Hope many more folks join!!
Mike
Cool! I'm not at all surprised:-) Congratulations to each of you!!
I might be interested. Maybe I could write a straight thriller? Westerns and Historical fiction: I've very little, if any experience with. Please keep me posted regarding this contest:-) Mysteries and mystery/thrillers, I think, are pretty much out of my league; again, very little, if any, experience. We also need to discuss word limit, deadline, etc. Maybe smaller amts of prize money...? Just throwing these things out there.
Many thanks, Jack and Nathan. I shall try very hard!
Mike
I'm not disinterested in this group. I've been all over the proverbial board trying to get my life straightened out. I'm happy to say that I've got a decent stretch of sobriety. My brother and his son will be visiting me around the 20th of May. Should be fun!
Mike
Good morning, everyone! I thought I'd stop by before heading off to work. Ugh! I do NOT like my job. Then again, it does pay. I guess. Don't mean to wax negative; I'm rather tired as I'm writing this. I'll try to visit as often as I can. Sometimes I'm off line for several days, or more, at a time. This is a GOOD group of people and I'm glad to have been invited!!
Mike
Morning, everyone. I meant to post this much earlier. I've decided, for now, to put off my attempts to fix up and publish my novella, The Ancients. I've got a lot going on in my life, but my biggest issue(I'm sharing this because I know many of you and I know you can be trusted)is that of addictions. I'm in a 12-Step program, but it's obviously not a quick fix. I'm going to continue read-reviewing on this site along with creating poems and short stories. Doing these very things is therapeutic for me.
I know from a lot of experience that without longterm sobriety and recovery I'll continue to spin the proverbial wheels. I want, badly, to break free of my issues! Please keep me in your prayers and thoughts!
Thanks and peace always,
Mike
Thanks again, everybody, for all of your help! Like I've said, I might not agree with all opinions, but I'm grateful for the time and effort put forth by each of you!! If I can at least revise each chapter, make each installment considerably better, then I'll be more content.
CHEERS!!
Mike
Thanks, Norm. I'll see what's the best option and go with it.
Mike
Question: once I amend a chapter along the lines of what is suggested, how exactly do I post(repost?) the corrected chapter?
Thanks,
Mike
