I actually want to congratulate everyone who participated!! There's loads of talent on this site and contests demand lots of that and lots of effort.
Peace,
Mike

Now I say there are four "likelys." Just read a 2-parter that rocks! Amazingly inventive, action-packed, and visual. Has plenty of great dialogue and humor, too. Had shied away earlier because its length seemed daunting.

Cool. Contests are great for strengthening motivation, bringing out a writer's best stuff. But there I go "soapboxing." :-)

Thanks, JP. Each one I read was great! Each author brought a great deal to the proverbial table. That said, three stand out: two are very long, but very enjoyable, entertaining reads. The third one's not as long, but I found it VERY amusing. I know a rubric is being used, but... Anyway, I'd be surprised if one of those three didn't get it.
Peace,
Mike

Morning, Max. I feel like quite the fumble-butt, yet, where/what are the rules?

It'd be interesting to know if she happened to read or hear about the lady with the Beretta...:-) I'd love to see the look on her face, lol!

Thanks, Allen!

Evening, Gacela. Welcome to the jungle! Kidding. Sounds like you've got a good understanding of what makes horror work. Good stories of terror need not be as disturbing as The Exoricist(Thankfully!). Anyway, I'll check out your work.

Peace,

Hey Allen. Think anyone'll come up with 2.2 mil? :-) Sheesh! five in the torso, two in the head...It'd be ironic and darkly funny if one of her relatives or friends sprang her! Then too, it's obvious that if anyone came for her, it'd happened by now. But...

Peace,

As usual, I'm late checking in. Sigh! I hear you, Allen. Sometimes I can be fairly productive. Other times I'm blank. They say write drunk and edit sober. I basically agree with that. I completely believe that the harder we try, the tougher it is to write. We need to find ways to "let" the story/ies come. Free writing(I'm guessing you've heard of that)is supposedly a fine way to "invite" stories. Word games probably help too. On the game site, Lumosity(Yep, that's the correct spelling), there's Word Bubbles and Word Bubbles Rising. Both are good for jogging the mind, so to speak. The basic game set-up for the site is free, but I think it's worth paying a little money for the larger package! More than one part of the brain gets exercised and there are some great articles.

Hope this helps.

Sheesh! Two very interesting stories, Allen. I think the guy claiming to have been beaten by a detective takes it...I mean, who wouldn't be aware that any police station and prison in this country would be watching everything quite carefully? I'd be shocked if there were ANY police stations or prisons without cameras in our country!

The bra holster...Tragic and kind of bizarre, but I wouldn't say that the incident will dissuade other women...hopefully we won't have something kind of like the Old West come about! I'm more than half serious because of the crazy-ass times we're in...Just about all bets are off, imo.

I agree with you, PByrd. I'm recalling a guy(I wish I could remember his name. I'm getting VERY old!)who was physically and psychologically abused by his natural mother for years. He wrote a series of books about it and a general self-help book called Help Yourself. If anyone had something to complain loud and long about, I'd say he was a candidate! Yet, best as I can recall, he didn't break laws, he didn't feel sorry for himself...

There are those bleeding hearts who'd say, "Well, he must've been born with a special knack for coping with all that!"

Well, actually, there might be some truth in that. But aren't we all given freedom of choice? We all misuse it sometimes, but still it was given to us...Stress is for real, but I don't think that gives us a license to run around with a gun, trying to wipe out everyone.

Welcome aboard, by the way!

Yes, the quiz was challenging. I think even many legal experts would do some hemming and hawing.

To me, street gangs(most of them) don't don't completely fit under the category of Org. Crime--the operative word being "street." Some are obviously well-set up, but they're not as "finished," if you will, as most other organized crime groups. But I'm prepared to stand corrected:-)

I'm certainly no expert on criminal law. To me, some of these were kind of tricky.

Sorry for the late reply, Phil. I'm gonna try to rev another installment of Monarch in a bit.
