Among writing, editing (for others and self), marketing, speaking engagements, and trying to form my own LLC, I honestly just don't have the mental time for this one. Good luck to all that entered.

I noticed too. I'm here, but not as active as I once was. HEY! We all want to be published. Just know that once you get out there, then you have to start the marketing, and it is time consuming. I have so many people marked to read, but I just don't seem to have the time to do anyone justice. Sorry if you feel neglected. I'm trying.

It's a tough contest.  I've been thinking about it, but I don't have a decent idea.

Me either.

I like cash. I think something that would be nice in the short story/poetry/essay (Any short pieces) would be a compilation and a small yearly publication with say the top 5 or 10 from each category being printed. # of stories, poems, would depend on how many contests there were. It might not seem like a lot, but the placers would at least have bragging rights.

Will do!

Share on FB. Tweet them. If you don't have Twitter yet, get it ASAP. And Instagram. Develop a website and a blog is also helpful. AND remember that anything you spend to promote, print, ship, ect. is tax deductible.

A follow up to this conversation. I don't agree with his views on self-publishing but his experiment was interesting.

Interesting. I don't agree with ALL he said about indie authors (friendlier than self-published), but I've wondered how the devil books got "bestseller" status myself, especially after reading some tripe with that tag.

The Hattiesburg-American is part of the USA Today network. I wonder if this counts as "bestseller" status.

Well, Lucky Thirteen made it to #9 on Amazon among books with a supernatural theme & Heartless made it to #70. So, I guess I could honestly say Amazon  bestseller the way John states it. smile
