Truth be told, Vern, as someone who has seen "Deliverance" a number of times, I'd just as soon not be looking for them thar hollers.

I think the hollers are in West Virginey or Kaintuck, Vern, but I take your point. Segregating writers on the basis of geography, unless it's just for fun or kinship, doesn't sit right with me. Still like to get feedback on any Vermonters out there, though.

Put your money where your mouth is, Randy. Become the founder of the OM group, and I'll be the founder of the Tar Heel group. Hell, I don't know if there are any North Carolina writers in TNBW. But I'm pretty sure there aren't any Vermonters among us. (Prove me wrong, peeps!)

Actually, I had my tongue in my cheek when posting that, but what the hey? Maybe Ann had a good idea going.

I see a new group has been started - Texas Writers. Well, I'm not going to lie there and take it! How about starting a group of North Carolina writers? Or Vermont writers? Maybe Washington State, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey writers? (I qualify for all of them.) Shoot, we could get the whole dang country divided up into writing cliques on this site. Kinda reminds me of those caucus things they have in Congress. Anyone interested in joining a NCVWPN Writers group? Or should we divide that up into its constituent parts? I could be a moderator, or you could (preferably, since I already have a group - that's state-neutral.) We could get some competition goin'. Texas vs. all the other state groups. Like the Ryder Cup. Whoo-ee!

Regarding the above, as an example, three of my books today rose several thousand ranks each. (Amazon claims to update this figure hourly.) But I'm not expecting big royalty checks as a result. sad

Unless you self-publish, only the publisher gets sales numbers from Amazon. Amazon rank is indicative of sales in a general way, but not specific. If your ranking climbs, you know that's because of a sales increase, but a rise of several thousand in rank may only translate to a couple of books sold. I don't think your idea is workable, Sol. And I don't really see the point, as it would create an irrelevant competition among TNBW published authors who write in various genres and use various promotion discounts.

Sol, none of my books are on the list: Get the Picture?, The Side Effect, The Flame, The Sincerest Form of Flattery, Skeleton Run (workshopped here as Teammates), and How Little We Know.

Jeez, Sol, judges that don't get back to you? And the winner to be decided by less than a full judge panel? I've got no dog in this fight, but this isn't right - and not what the entrants signed up for. Those judges who have gone AWOL should not be asked to participate in the future.

Thank you for those very kind words, Janet. Because of  TNBW, I have a venue in which I can post a chapter at a time while still not sure where my story will go. smile  And when I screw up, it's easier for me to fix things right then and there so I can put it behind me. That's what I like about this site - real-time critiques to help me edit the story along the way so it can be as polished as possible before it falls into the hands of the editors, who always think it's not quite polished enough for some reason. smile

Different strokes for different folks. I find it more tedious to have to go back to all the comments and make adjustments to stuff I may have posted months earlier. Plus, with my plot already completed, I'd have a built-in bias not to change it in any material way. Sometimes I get suggestions that make me change the direction of the plot - something I couldn't do if it were already wrapped up in a bow, except for doing little tweaks here and there. But I must say you're prolific and your approach has been working for you, proving there are many ways to skin a cat.  Jack

Wikipedia gives Serling credit for the TV movie with the same name as his book. I know Air Force One crashes in it, but I can't remember - did they find out the plane had been hijacked?

Witness would have been a good one, since you did include movies.

If we could have gone farther back in time, the selections would have been easier. smile

Okay, I've got  a combination of movies and books:
1. A child - Paper Moon (from the novel, Addie Pray, by Joe David Brown)
2. An explosion - Nightfall (Nelson DeMille)
3. A faked death - Double Jeopardy
4. Mental illness - Primal Fear (William Diehl) Also, Identity
5. A lost item - The Hot Rock (Donald E. Westlake)
6. A carnival - Encyclopedia Jones and the Case of the Carnival Crime (Donald J. Sobol)
7. Mistaken identity - Identity
8. A storm - The Hateful Eight (Also, Identity)
9. A hijacking - Air Force One
10. A relative - The Grifters (Also, Paper Moon)

Okay, so let's have some discussion! smile

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any feedback from the last quiz.

NJC's post has given me an idea. Janet, why don't you tell indie bookstores that you'll put their links on your website's book page(s) if they agree to stock your books? They get advertising, and you get outlets for your books.
