Topic: been away a long time

good afternoon all

my name is greg and i was very active here a long time ago. i was working, at the time, on my first novel, Preacher's Blood. With a lot of work and help here I ended up self-publishing on Amazon. I wanted to come back to see what was going on here and to try and get some advice.....

I am intending on doing a print release of my novel at some point, but would really love to have the manuscript edited for, well, everything! Does anyone know any reliable editors that i might be able to contact to look at my manuscript. Hoppefully there is someone out there within a decent price range. any suggestions would be quite welcome.

thanks and have a good day all

greg

Re: been away a long time

Greg, your book is currently posted to groups and connections, but the group(s) you published to don't seem to include Premium. Whatever the cause, I can't open your book. Most people publish to Premium in addition to appropriate genre groups (e.g., sci-fi, thrillers, etc.), which gives them the widest possible exposure on the site without explicitly exposing it to the Internet. If you add it to Premium and then read/recip with others, you'll probably get a lot of the feedback you're looking for (from big picture down to individual nits). If you haven't already published your work to a points group, it will cost you points to add it to Premium. Publishing on the site with points also means site readers will earn points for reading it.

You can also connect with Janet Taylor-Perry here on the site. She's an English teacher, self-published author, mother of five, and still finds free time to work as an editor. She's been invaluable to me.

Welcome back.
Dirk

Re: been away a long time

You can contact Rowanvale books with 2,000 words at (Attn, Cat Charlton) info@rowanvalesbooks.com they will assess for free from the sample and give you an estimate for proof and copy editing (double checked). I got a quote of around £270- 340 for a 50-70,00 word novel, based on my submission, obviously the better the draft the less work they see being needed.  It won't get you a cheaper deal but you can mention that I sent you there. I am likely to use them, as it is I believe a cost that has to be paid or one won't have a good enough manuscript. Best of luck Duncan Gough.

Re: been away a long time

This question illustrates why the forum on the old site was so extremely valuable. There was a long list of editor recommendations archived on those threads. I know Sol mentioned our being able to access them, but I haven't been successful in doing so since the migration. Maybe you can write him and ask?
