Topic: Book Cover

Uploading a book cover to my new book... Betrayal Behind the Horns, has not been working for several days.

Anyone else having issues?

I just uploaded a new cover for "Revels," so it's working fine for me. But that's a short story.

Ive been trying for 3 days to upload a cover for my.new book. Hopefully the webmaster or whomever can fix it.

Uploading where? On this site? Longstanding issue. Try converting it to a different image file type. Jpegs are the mostly like to work. May require futzing with the image file (e.g., load it into your favorite image app, especially Paint, make a minor change (e.g., compress it, edit the image slightly, etc.), then save it back as a Jpeg.

Someone else may have suggestions for this one.

Since I'm not in the room with you, just to make sure:

1. Edit the book.
2. Going to the "Cover" section.
3. "Choose File" you want from your end. (And the file type might matter? I use JPGs exclusively.)
4. Making sure the setting is title or no title, depending on how you want it.
5. "Upload Image and Create"

Tried all that, didn't work.
Unchecked title box. Picture loaded.
Rechecked title box. Title won't appear after saving and reloading page.
Seems to me the page is buggier than Iowa in August.

Did you re-select the image file when you added the title check?
It won't use the file you most recently loaded if you make a change like that. You have to re-select the image as well.
Which is probably a bug not a feature, but was something I learned when I was fiddling with title settings before.
Now that I'm using Canva for my mock-ups, I just build the titles myself and don't worry about it. So much easier.

For what it's worth, you don't need a title on the book cover on this site. If I remember correctly, whenever this site displays your cover, the name of the book will always be included in text anyway, so there's no need for it on the image. When it displays your book cover as a thumbnail, such as on our home pages, it's usually too difficult to read anyway.

That depends on whether or not you want it to write your title. For me, if I have a special picture, I rarely want the title big and bold in the center of the page. I want it where I want it, even though it may seem small here. So there is an option where you can say no to having the site write your title and name on your cover.

The biggest problem I have with putting my own picture for my cover on here is that my pics usually have too many pixels. No matter the size, if the DPI is heavy, it won't upload. I always take it into PhotoShop and make the DPI less, and then it works. I think you can do that with Paint, too.

I meant you don't need to use text as part of your book covers here, whether you add them yourself or let the Publish wizard add one for you. Your chosen cover on this site is never displayed here without the name of the book, short story, or poem being either beside, above, or below the cover image.

So you're saying you don't need to title it, just put the picture? Okay, that works, too.

Did anyone get the text title on the cover to work? I can have the devs take a look if it's acting buggy, which it sounds like it is.

It works for me. I've used jpeg and it's worked. I'm using .png now and that works both for the cover and within the chapters. I've used it with and without a title and both work. My current Lindsay book is without title (because the title is so long I only get part of it -- and it doesn't like ampersands, maybe,  because I just get '&amp' then nothing follows). I'm using Brave browser on a Mac, if any of that helps.
