Topic: Ulysses

Hi.
When I read, I put more emphasis on style than content or plot. Don’t know why, I’ve just always been that way. Anyway, I finally picked up a copy of Ulysses, a book I’ve been threatening to read since I was 15.
Wow. Flew through it in 3 weeks, while having to use the dictionary the whole read.

If you haven’t already and you’re into style (and boosting your vocabulary) more than plot, you’ll enjoy it, as I did, immensely. (James Joyce)

Whata--
I was just thinking that this might be the year I finish Ulysses. Fun factoid: Copies of Ulysses were shipped to the United States...only to be turned away because someone in Boston thought the book was obscene.

Wait! I think that was the book I just donated to Goodwill after I cleaned the dust off. Hmm... thinking now maybe I should've read it! smile

Figures. I'm not surprised. My definition of obscenity is much different. Ulysses doesn't even come close.

It's probably not for everyone. The last forty or so pages put me over the top. One LONG run-on sentence. Amazingly brilliant. Definitely on my top ten favorite list.
