Topic: A fairly unique story

For those with Netflix, check out a movie called Jonathan. Although I've seen stories about multiple personalities, Jonathan is a sci-fi spin on that. It's about two personalities (Jonathan, an uptight nerd, and John, the rebel) who each get to live 12 hours at a time, then their personalities switch thanks to an implant created by their doctor/adoptive mother. The film shows their structured lives and how they communicate with each other, and then there's this girl, and the threads completely unravel. I've seen it three times. I find it spellbinding.

Re: A fairly unique story

Sounds good. I'll check it out.

Re: A fairly unique story

"Your name", an anime movie also in Netflix that somehow touches the same topic. It's about two teenagers (a boy and a girl), one living in Tokio and another one in a faraway town, who exchange bodies and only communicate through notes on their mobiles. Worth watching.

Re: A fairly unique story

The best description of Jonathan I can give is that it's a train wreck in slow motion.

Re: A fairly unique story

Intriguing concept! I'm unplugged from Netflix presently as I'd run out of good content (there's way less available on Canadian version than American), but will reconnect later.

My loyalty to streaming services is basically zero. I watch for a while, but when I'm spending more time hunting for content than watching, I unplug and go to another.

Good tip - will watch in future.

Re: A fairly unique story

It's available in Canada. I live in Calgary. I agree about content problems, though. Since I no longer own a TV or have cable, I keep paying for Netflix. I just started a new series called The Forest. French with English subtitles, but the story is good so far. It's a mystery set in a small French town. As often as not, I rent a movie from Google. Just watched Terminator 2 again after many years. The liquid metal Terminator was awesome.

Re: A fairly unique story

Dirk--
I don't know if you can get this on Canadian Netflix, but I highly recommend the series Cobra Kai, a companion series to the original Karate Kid.

Like everyone this year, I am looking for mind numbing comfort food TV that will distract me from having to stay home. When I saw ads for this series, I thought, okay this will be a predictable walk down memory lane with grown up Daniel. I envisioned him being a mini Mr Miyagi wisely coaching kids in the Miyagi method of karate, they will confront bad guys and win.

But I was wrong. Daniel is not a 'nice' guy, but a rabid capitalist bent on revenge as soon as his old nemesis Johnny resurfaces. Johnny hasn't changed, he's still a bully, but he is starting to deal with his past and make some changes. The whole first season is an exploration of how these two men ended up where they are in life and how it effects their families.

So...If you want to watch something a little familiar but takes you off road, this is a good series to waste your time on.

The episodes are only 28 minutes long, seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now, season three is coming 2021.

Re: A fairly unique story

Thanks, Dagny. I'll add it to my list. I like short episodes, as I'm easily bored.  You've probably heard of Thirteen Reasons Why. The first season is about thirteen reasons why a teenage girl killed herself. It's intense. I had to watch episodes be of Friends in between. Season four includes some of the best acting I've ever seen. The lead actor, Dylan Minette, plays a teenager in his final year of high school who begins to fall apart mentally because of all the s--t he's gone through in high school.
