Re: Bookshelf publications have gone missing!!

I am currently in a conversation with someone at Kindle Direct Publishing (Amazon) about their change. They claim they didn't change anything, but I beg to differ. They removed the methodology for following links using their "z-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/" server. It now cannot be reached even with a PING. On that server is a script that allows links to be displayed off-site. Maybe, if enough of us complain, we'll get it back.

Re: Bookshelf publications have gone missing!!

You can actually link to your books in your profile but it requires a little knowledge of html. You have to click the Source button on the editor, find the section of the page where you want to add the link, and then put in this code:

<a href="https://www.amazon.com/wharever the url is">The Name of Your Book</a>

We're working on some alternate solutions.

you should remove everything after /ref= so that Amazon cannot track how users are arriving at your story (which may negatively impact your reviews)

Why would that negatively impact reviews? It's still a link to Amazon from a reputable site. They get their cut if someone buys.

Re: Bookshelf publications have gone missing!!

Doesn't work, Sol. See my profile. Apparently, the a and /a is not allowed. It would work here but not in our profiles.

Re: Bookshelf publications have gone missing!!

Just curious - is the Book Shelf feature on this site a significant source of sales for authors on this website?   For example, in a month, how many books would you guess you sell from having the link here?

I would guess close to none, but that's not the point, it seems to me.

I see.  Thank you.
Well, I wasn’t really trying to make a point. I was genuinely curious.  But now that you mention it, if selling books is not the point, then what is the point?
Thank you

I don't think selling books to each other here at TNBW is the point. But having links to those books would show the products that result from membership in TNBW and be a reminder that publishing success is possible for those just starting out.

In the unlikely event you should get a number of reviews from the same link, Amazon may accidentally flag them as shills. I don't believe it's common, but why lose your valuable reviews?

Lordy.  Altruism?  I woulda never guessed THAT was the reason for all the fretting and handwringing over Amazon links on the Book Shelf.  For the love of Pete, we gotta get this fixed quick then.  If Jeff Bezos knew we were on the verge of invoking a TNBW State of Emergency because we’re afraid of the new folks losing hope, I bet he’d have his minions at Amazon on this PDQ.  We need a hero.  Anybody know Jeff’s Twitter handle?

It's happened before. I think Ann Everett posted about this some time ago.
