I downgraded to basic. If I upgrade, will I again belong to all the same groups as before and will all the work I had posted be restored?

It depends on how many groups you have. I think there is a limit of 2-3 if you are Basic so you'll have to leave some of your groups. Your work will be restored when you upgrade.
