Topic: Ottawa, Canada is colder than Mars!

Most of Canada is setting records this week, with various cities colder than Mars, the North Pole, and the South Pole. Ottawa is colder than the capital of Mongolia, Ulan Bator.

I read a science story the other day that the Sun is entering a recurring cooling period, where it gives off less heat than usual. The last time was in the 1700's, which led to a mini ice age.

O the weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful...

Re: Ottawa, Canada is colder than Mars!

Well, Mars is a bit hyperbolic, but sure as shootin', baby, it's cold outside!

I guess it's balmy here on Lake Huron on the east side of Michigan.:) Had about four inches of lake effect snow, with some drifting over a foot. The temperature is mild at 13F/-10C, with tonight dropping to 5F/-15C (not including the wind chill). Another 2-4 inches of snow expected by 10 a.m. Oh joy!

56 degrees today in Georgia!  I cut grass in short sleeves.

Re: Ottawa, Canada is colder than Mars!

I was just skiing in Mt Tremblant, Quebec, near Montreal. Low temp was negative 20 degrees F. So cold my tears froze on my eyelashes! I read in a CNN article there were recorded temps on Mars that were warmer that day. Sounds like a good sci-fi plot is in this somewhere.

Re: Ottawa, Canada is colder than Mars!

Ha! Now try telling this former California girl how you "love the seasons." Nobody loves the cold. I'll just stay right here in AZ where 'cold' means less than 98.6.
Just so you'll know--the older we get, the more sensitive we are to the cold. You might want to start making preparations now for your retirement.
And boy, am I glad I never bought into that 'global warming' crap. Anyone with an ounce of gray matter knows the earth's climate is cyclical, and nothing we do influences that. It's as Mark Twain said: "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it."
The last cold spell was in the eighteenth century, a period that produced some of the greatest thinkers in history, and saw some of the greatest changes. Apparently, cold weather is good for the human condition.

Ah, but when the Sun returns to its normal output, we're screwed. Hopefully, I'll be dead by then. Y'all can deal with the fact that the Middle East will become uninhabitable. That'll make the Syrian refugee crises look like a minor migration.
