There's a way to use terms and delay defining them.  See this page and the next.  You can let the kolee and zumil be  fully defined later, with just a hint now.

LOL! And also, don't let the feminists see those silly princess warrior outfits! They'd get all upset and they're already really so upset they can't make sense. big_smile

With my legs, I'm not sure I'll be up to a long trip, but let me know when the assignation is planned.  I'll see what I can do ...

Oh, but they don't know what's really important.  Fortunately, Agatha has some goot pipple to look after her. smile

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

Actually, Earth-Mother and Sky-Father might not be so far off.  The dragons are creatures of Nature's power.  The humans give form and direction to that power.

NJC, I'm aiming for a trip to Seattke next year. Work has to cool down first and the new hires have to be trained. God, I can't wait until July is over with...one day at a time.

Amendment to previous statement: date will move up if/when Janet's boss irritates enough to make her leave.

We can also meet somewhere halfway if that works out cheaper/easier/better. I'm stuck until end of March next year, minimum time before I can transfer back to anywhere. My current visa end March 2018 and can be extended for another 2 years, but no way how I feel at the moment. Things are much better at work overall given that people are doing their work again. I'm still working the next two weekends still, but was promised time off, so I don't mind.

But I'll let you know what's happening! Because THIS needs to happen to make it worthwhile!

Oh, and I got my tax return back. Not good!!! But we think we know where the problem is and if so, it'll look not bad. I won't tell you about my life insurance benefit problems, it's a long sad story. But all this frustration got me writing again, so there's that.

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

I have officially 'outlined' chapters 1-16 using flash cards and mini sticky notes. Yay for cheap office supplies! Now I just have to rearrange everything and in the process, rewrite all my chapters. Whee!

Also, I finally figured out how to use the word quota aspect of my writing program, so now I can keep track of how much I write in a day/week and make sure I'm not falling behind.

Any hook that works...

Good girl!

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

Chapter one (Adeline's chapter) has been revamped with an extra ~500 words. Bare bones are the same, but I expanded on descriptions and added some dialogue between Merrin and Adeline. Didn't re-post this one since it's mostly the same, but my next chapters will likely be re-posted. (I'm guessing they'll also take me twice as long to edit)

Maybe I can keep up this time?! *crosses fingers*

This has to be the most brilliantly designed story page I've ever seen.  Look how it uses the natural progression of eye movement for the progressive reveal.  Phil Foglio is part Spark himself.  (And their current color artist, Cheyenne Wright, is a full Spark.)

quite a bit of that needs google translate

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

No, just a little backstory.  Okay, maybe a lot of backstory.  Just don't try to archive-binge it in one sitting unless you plan on sitting for a long time.  But the story is exquisitely worked out, and the Foglios don't stop at cranking it up to eleven or twelve.  Depending on which part of the story they are in, they go to twenty-three or thirty-seven, and you won't get all the jokes--or clues--on the first pass.

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

Vaca time!! I'll be in the woods from today until Tues/Wed-ish so I won't be very active on tNBW, however I'm really hoping to get some writing done the good old fashioned way. smile

Happy 4th of July to those in the U.S. and happy weekend to all the rest!!

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

You guys are awesome...

Good news, I got some writing done during my adventure into the woods. Bad news, it's quite a few chapters ahead of where I'm at. Just as soon as I get these two scenes entered electronically, I'm hoping I can get the correct scenes written out while I heal from a sunburn, various bug bites, and a rash. Yay, camping! big_smile

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

Sorry I've been MIA everyone! I promise I'll get back on track here soon, so no cattle prods!

In the meantime, if anyone needs a review or if I'm forgetting an owed review, let me know. It's much easier to review on my lunch break than it is to write. smile

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

I'm the one who owes you a review. And it's the summer, so work isn't helpful. But it never hurts to try…we'll see what tonight brings…

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

Alright, I'm having a slight plot difficulty. Maya basically has no motivation for going against the Empire. She was too young to remember her family's murder and things like slavery and so on are just a part of daily life for her. Vierra at least has a rebellious personality and has seen the Empire's evil nature in her time as a Scofflaw, but Maya's pretty straight-laced. (Spoiler) Once she figures out that Merrin and Vierra are the ones who actually stole the orb that she was accused of stealing, she honestly has more reason to dislike the Scofflaws than she does the Empire. (End Spoiler)

Each time I try to write a scene with her, it seems like she's just tagging along for the sake of the story and I can't think of anything to motivate her that isn't completely cliche. She's supposed to be a damsel-in-distress character at first, but I need to fabricate some sort of goal that pulls her out of that damsel role. Help, please!

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

So you need a plot event or sequence that will change her mind and provide the character development.  It can start small, making the Empire a thing to avoid or push back against, and then get serious.  You probably have to start with something that she cares about.

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

Yep. With her arrest and the time she spent in a cell, it isn't as if she has any love for the Empire, but in her mind the Scofflaws would be just as much at fault for that event as the Empire was. I need something to push her into taking action rather than just running away. I have one event in the works that would accomplish that, but its not happening until much later and I don't like stringing Maya along until that point.

249

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

You have the makings of a nice 3 pillar story here, should Maya side against both the Empire and the Scofflaws.

250

Re: The Colorless Dragon Thread

So give Maya reasons to lean one way, then the other.  When she makes her final decision, it should hurt.
