I just spent the past two days reading the Martian. First new book in a looooongggg time. (THANK YOU JANET!)

Oh, and I slept off whatever crud my kids brought home from school and gifted to me. So I woke up this morning with the first half of my next chapter firmly planted in my head. Time to write.

I suppose it could happen. Not after the uterus is cut open (because then the muscles wouldn't squeeze out the kid), but between the time when mom was draped and the incision was made.

Though I think they would notice if the water broke on the table (splaaaashhhhhh). Assuming that she broke her water during the earlier labor, then that wouldn't be a clue. Once the epidural took effect, I would expect that the contractions would stop, as well. Apparently, that didn't happen. And since she couldn't feel below her waist, she didn't feel that there was a lump there. And the baby was fine because the circulation was still pumping through the cord.

One of those weird moments that could have happened. Though after 36 hrs of labor, she was clearly not advancing and they would have checked her cervix and known this. I don't think the medical people should be blamed for a scar or an unnecessary procedure, though. This is one of those situations where the baby decided to be as inconvenient as possible. And the hospital is unavailable for comment, so who the hell knows what really happened. Whenever you have a single viewpoint on the news, I get kind of skeptical.

She remembers hearing silence for a few minutes until her baby cried, so I think it was an epidural. Emergency where the baby heart rate drops...that is when they intubated. Csection after failure to advance... That is when they do an epidural.

Either way, the docs should have noticed that the uterus was deflated. So while it is within the realm of possibility, I think that there was poor communication or a seriously dumb mother listening to the doc's explanation.

Chapter posted. I had to get the text out of my head before I went back to work. It is coming to crunch time there. We've lost another of my coworkers and are now a skeleton crew. I either work massive overtime or watch another person flake away.

I may be the 'last man standing' in two months. The thought just makes me cry. I'm going to have to train a complete department. If I stay, that is. I'm getting a raise, but I'm not sure I'm up to this.

That may be a good thing for the writing. When I get stressed, I really like to bury myself in unreality.

One nurse's experience

Hey, we missed you!  Pull up a thread and set a spell.

I have outlined most of Book 3 and have written the first 3 chapters.  I recently attended LTUE (Life, The Universe & Everything) in Provo UT and was just blown away.  It was 3 days of awesomeness.  LE Modessit, Brandon Sanderson, Shannon Hale, Kevin J Anderson and many other greats were there talking about every aspect of writing.  I took 9 pages of notes and will be typing them up.  Maybe once I'm done I'll be putting them up somewhere, perhaps on a thread here.  Book 2 cover is almost done.  i am re-doing book 1 cover before releasing book 2.  I also have a publisher who has asked for a submission from book 1 so crossing my fingers there.  If anyone would like me to write a guest blog for them on what I learned at LTUE, I would be happy to.

Actually one of the  things I really want to do is start guest blogging.  I have a few lined up but my goal is to write at least 1 a week.  You'll never guess where I learned that?

I only just discovered apricot brandy. Beats wine hands down in my book. Too bad it interacts with my medication, otherwise I could develop a serious addiction.
