Lucy Rice Profile

I'm coming back from 20 years of Lyme disease, which had some interesting effects on my brain. During much of that time, I wasn't able to read, had little to no short-term memory, hallucinated a bit, fell down a lot, and sometimes wondered if life was worth the effort. I thought about writing in December 2009, wondering if it might help to reconnect the downed wires in my head. It started out as therapy and quickly became a passion. I joined a local writers' group in January 2010, and then found the TNBW bin of loonies in May. My writers' group is all about being supportive, which is nice. But I'm glad to be here where people aren't afraid to tell me when something doesn't work. My short story, "Lime Green and Not Deep," was recently accepted by A Cup of Comfort books. And my short little "Note" won a prize at the WOW (Women on Writing) website. (Ooooh! Ahhhh!) Finding Sara, my very first novel workshopped here on the site, is under contract, due to be published late 2011 or early 2012. So, I'm off to a start, working my ass off, trying to become a decent writer. A thousand thank yous to all those who have taken the time to slap me upside the head and help me do better.
