| Bio: | Greetings readers and writers of heroic fantasy! I can say that my love of swords and magic and the heroes who wield both started with J.R.R. Tolkien, and this is true, but to be honest it stared with the 1977 cartoon adaption of “The Hobbit.� The music was amazing! And I loved how Bilbo changed from the person that he was –a respectable hobbit who never went on any adventures, into the person he truly was – a brave soul who wanted to experience life and make the world a better place than when he found it. I believe characters should change and develop. I believe they should suffer, but never be disheartened. My dad once said (and I don’t know if he wrote this but probably he did) “Worthwhile characters struggle against ever increasing odds of disaster to achieve a worthwhile goal.� Good stuff. The best writing is that which makes you look out your window and see the sun rise and realize you read all night and its time to get ready for work. Or makes you go five stops past your bus stop. One of the finest reviews I ever read was from The Philadelphia Inquirer about James Clavell’s “Shogun� ‘...be prepared for late nights, meals untasted, business unattended...’ –is that not the most amazing complement ever? I have not achieved that status yet, but with your help I just might. Read on! |
