Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread
Sil doesn't count? What about her big sex scene with Kha? And we've been told of the Founders.

You want to lay gound, but not to telegraph your punches.
If the enemy can use Behira's Veil against Behira's forces, can that enemy also strip the Veil, to fuddle the forces? Or has Behira withdrawn it altogether so it cannot be used against her?
Has an enemy breached Asgaard?
The Bravo is for the whole sequence.
Now ... when Elston first appeared after Jaylene's resuurrection, Alda saw the blackness of anger within him. I have to doubt everything now, so I'm wondering if there's more than we understand to that blackness--or to that anger.
Postscript: The Big Story Message is If these are our friends, what will we meet as enemies?
This is really good! (It made me go, aha! So yeah, well done njc!)
But ... it's still kind of just being dropped in the reader's lap. So it will depend on whether Amy wants to cater for the clever readers (like njc) or the slow ones (like me - but in my defence, I'm fairly new to this fantasy genre thingy - weak, I know, but I stand by it! )
So, for the slow ones, this needs to be spelled out somehow. Like Amy would say, thin it to that. The fix in my mind isn't a massive one either. Just Alda (who else?!) or maybe even Taz-man saying something in those lines would be pretty effective in my opinion.
I still have to read the new version ... I had to choose between writing my next chapter or doing reviews, I didn't have time for both, and writing won. I hoping to fix that over the next few weeks ...
Write first. I'll be waiting to review when it appears.
As to the talking-anything, I can add it at the prison and at Fadie's bar/ hotel. K's point is correct. It doesn't have to change the story in order to show there is a very mixed bunch of genetics running around the city.
Ok, to clarify one or two of the rules within the world.
The Veil can't be stripped away without a very limited set of circumstances happening.
Behira can't remove the Veil for Her own protection, even if she wanted to. I tied the goddess' hands on this one. It has to stay in place.
By the way, when Tazar takes his armor and weapons off for Griffon, I can see him saying 'Guard it,' to whomever, in a way that makes even Griffon take notice, and makes the ones charged with guarding it gulp and assent. Not with the threat of violence, but something deeper. As Griffon said, Tazar is a warrior.
It will be hard to pull off if yu choose to do it, but it could be a very strong character moment.

It ought to be Alda. These are our friends big man. Wait 'til you see our enemies. And maybe Valheric adds something about the ones you can't see.
Wait till you see our enemies...
Very nice!
Remember (as I'm sure you do) that Tazar has his own unseen enemies. I'm assuming that he's going to meet them again, maybe in the catacombs.
Thanks for keeping me on my toes :-) No matter that he is essentially running away from his problems. I'll make sure that they follow.
Alda and Tazar both have independent streaks, don't they? They come out in different ways, but they are both there, no?
Correct. Why do you ask?
You're right. I'm going to add some dancing critters. Score one for the peanut gallery.
Now I'm picturing Dick van Dyke with the dancing penguins in Mary Poppins. "My father gave me nose a tweak and told me I was bad ..."
Maybe in those frescoes of Behira you could show Sil's transition to dragonhood and her assault. Don't name her and don't give away so much that anyone could guess that she'll appear. And maybe they don't even know her name. You could have Lewellen tell Tazar the story. We only need to see a line or two of dialogue.
I also need to mention more about the Defiler from the beginning. Yet another one of those little details that I'm realizing half way through the book.
I'm not sure you do need that. Your slow reveal seems okay so far. It depends on what route you plan to take us on.
In the meantime, I wonder about how those memories were wrenched from Kha to harm his friends. Did that happen before or after he was exposed to the Black Staff?
Has the Black Staff been burnt, by the way?
After. And the black staff is petrified wood. Not burnt. Most of the mages who have looked at it doubt that it is even a staff. Kha was one of the few who called it that. Only agreement is that it is a womping big piece of magic.
So the Black Staff may have been an instrument of what happened to/through Kha?
Is it naturally petrified? Then surely it is much older than the Age of Diminishment? Maybe even older than the Age of Magic?
And it is seemingly linked to the Defiler?
So, KH, LOTR was about Aragorn and Arwen?
NJC,
Yes. No. Yes. Yes. Yes.
K,
(I stick out tongue and blow raspberry.) It's called an outline.
Defiler?
Age of Diminishment?
Are you people reading the same books as me? I'm still waiting for a mage-wedding and you guys are planning some kind of apocalypse
I still have to read/review njc's latest 2 posted chapters, never mind mage-weddings or any of amy's other stuff, and then I still need to finish RB - I'll do that now, next week is going to be hard to get any reviews done over lunchtime - big boss flying in from London, I need to pretend I know what I'm doing, I'm working hard at what I pretend I know I can do, etc. etc. So now I've accepted that I will just have to buy the books one day and that I will just have to carry on like now and not having a clue 80% of the time what the forum posts are about, but pretending I know what it's about (a lot like work actually! LOL). * sad sigh*
You know more about your job than they do. Therefore, you are the expert. Deal with it :-)
