Topic: Sensitive subject

Hey guys,

Maybe I'm missing something, but right now I'm pretty discouraged. While I LOVE the new interface for posting and reviewing, I feel like TNBW has lost so much of the feel of community. I'm mean I love chatting with you guys, but there are NO conversations going on site wide that I can see. Those that are posted, no one really responds except a select few. Not only that but, there seems to be NO ONE posting new material and what is posted is hard to see what genre etc. I guess what I'm saying is that the best parts of TNBW seem to be gone and I'm just hoping I'm missing it somewhere. I'm going to go cry now.

Re: Sensitive subject

I agree 100%, Bimmy.  IMO and FWIW, the new site was designed to Balkanize itself.  I'm not that fond of the eye candy.

Re: Sensitive subject

All the cues we used to have need to be relearned. The scrolling new-post notifications are at the bottom of your home page. The forums are definitely less social. Everyone lost momentum with the switch. You were always a social bunny, so I can see that you would feel a loss. What I suggest is that you restart a group called the 'new/old forums-Get Published!'

Just re invite the people who you enjoyed conversing with. You'll get your socialization. If you wanted to, you could transfer old conversations to get the ball rolling.

Re: Sensitive subject

All "my regulars" seem to be in this forum. That's not the issue. Even if I wasn't directly involved in a thread, there were always so many great conversations  about writing and publishing that I could watch and learn. I don't see anything like that happening. It's just really quiet. Though, I do remember that a lot of regulars just dropped off the map during SS so they didn't have to deal with the people "just here for the contest". Hmmm....

OUCH!!!!!

Re: Sensitive subject

This makes me sad. I wish I understood Sol's reasoning. But it boils down to that itsbhis business and he has to run it how he sees fit. I'll just hope the lively and informative conversations of old return.

Re: Sensitive subject

I haven't been active on the "old" forums at all (in hindsight, that was probably a good thing! LOL).  But bimmy made me think more about this disheartened/disconnected feelings around the forums of old.  The biggest obstacle to me is I have to remember to go and look every now and again whether any new groups have been created that I would like to join - most of the time, I don't even bother.  It's a pain, like many other things that worked on the old site and had no need to be changed and are now a royal pain to work around.

The new site launch combined with the holiday season also didn't help I guess.  I just hope that everyone finds their comfort zone with the new site and we can carry on like always.  *sigh*

Balkanize, njc has a knack for aptly summarising issues in one word!  But that's what Sol wants.

But at least the new in-line review format makes it so worthwhile!  hahahahahahaha

Re: Sensitive subject

Hey! I just realized the review ratings are gone! I'm slow. I know. But I do have a lot going on. Lol!

Re: Sensitive subject

Lol! Doh!

Why you little!

Re: Sensitive subject

Bimmy, I totally agree. It's so hard to find anything and I don't have time to search for everything that's going on. The old forum I could see all the new posts on one page, easily, regardless of topic. Now it's all sequestered. On top of that, the new site isn't compatible with my old work computer and my older version of IE so I can't upload chapters. I have to do it from my Surface Pro, and then it strips all the formatting. I hate it.

Re: Sensitive subject

My situation is opposite. I lost my formatting on the old site. No italics ever...and all my paragraphs ran into each other. That's why I just had a space between paragraphs instead of indents.

That stinks. I haven't run into any of those problems. I just miss the community.

sad

I remember when the site concept was first being discussed and I complained about me & bimmy getting banished and everyone shruggd it off.

I'd love to dance and point and yell I told you so, but there's no one left to listen

That's right...we prophesied this! I make a terrible sooth sayer if I can't remember my sooths....

Re: Sensitive subject

To be honest, this is the only group of about seven I belong to that actually interacts on a daily basis (a very few exceptions where nothing was posted, but it's the minority).  Romance isn't too bad either, but it's more a fortnightly thing (but then again, it could be the founder/moderator over there!  LOL)  But the rest, including premium, very quiet ....
