Hey Randy, welcome to the course!  And thank you for supplying a sample of dialogue. If you wouldn't mind, could you upload it instead?  Just create a "post your writing' upload and label it, 'Dialogue Writing Sample'. Make sure you click only the box labeled,  "Dynamic Dialogue" so it posts to the group.

Also, when you get a few minutes, if you could give me an idea of some of the things you feel you're struggling with, or want help with the most, it will aid me in how I comment and critique your homework lessons.

Thanks!

Welcome everyone!  I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and digging in.  Please take a moment to introduce yourself and give us an idea of what kinds of things you're looking to get out of this workshop. Classes will officially begin on the 21st. Sometime before then, please take a moment to upload your first writing samples and make them visible to the group. The samples will assist me with refining the course to best suit your individual needs.

In the meantime, here's a little more information about the course.

Course Overview

Week one: What is Dialogue?  The Dialogue Mantra
Week two: Simple Rules of Punctuation.
Week three: Dialogue Tags & Character Movement: types & roles.
Week four: Effective & Ineffective Dialogue
Week five: Making Dialogue Believable & Expressing Character
Week six: Final Reviews & Group Analysis

Class structure

Every Monday
•    I will be posting a written lesson corresponding with the course syllabus. Each lesson will contain a homework assignment.
•    You will be responsible for completing and posting homework assignments prior to the next class (6 days).

Every Thursday
•    You will be posting a sample scene for group review. The focus of the sample will be to tackle topics covered that week.
•    You will be responsible for reviewing at least two of your classmates writing samples prior to the next class. Reviews aren’t limited to only the topic of the week, but must contain fair and courteous evaluation of the main topic of the week.
•    I will be reviewing all sample writing.

Thanks and I look forward to getting started!
