Thanks one and all.

Topic: Leaving site (11 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Premium)
I've been a member of this site for several years and have enjoyed and benefited from reading works and having my own work read and critiqued. I've done about 1200 reviews and hope they have helped the many fine and dedicated writers I've met here. Lately, I have just not been able to give the site the time it deserves, so I've decided to leave in order to focus on building up my collections of stories, which seem to take me more and more time to complete.
Thanks to all the talented writers who have been so generous with their time in reading and critiquing my stories, and allowing me to read their work. I know I am a better writer for it. And thanks to Sol for his hard work and dedication in in providing writers with a place to gather, read, and share the common bond of people who value good writing. Good luck and happy writing to you all.

Thanks much. I've received much encouragement and valuable input from the writers on this site over the past few years and I know it's made me a better writer. I'll lift a glass to you all in New Orleans (while gulping down beignets!).

Wilma Bailey is one of best poets I've read on or off site in quite a while, and I've read a lot of poets. If you write verse or just enjoy it, read her work. Her latest poem is Lessons of Bees.

Re: sorting new postings (4 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Basic)
Thanks, Sol. Just fiddling around I see that you can use filters on the Home page to sort by genre, which is what I was looking for. I'm sure I'll get the knack of using the new features soon, although I tend to be a bit slow on the uptake.

Topic: sorting new postings (4 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Basic)
I'd like to be able to see new postings on the Home page filtered by type--novel, short story, poetry. I generally critique short stories and poetry only and as it is now I have to hunt for them. Also, are all new members automatically in the Free group, so I can see their postings even if they are not part of another group of which I'm a member?
Sol et al, information please.

I'll read it in the next few days. I do think it's easy to miss postings as they are just not as visible as on the old site.

Re: Skeptikoi (3 replies, posted in Short Fiction and Non-Fiction)
I finished that piece and posted it as "Devoutly to Be Wished" and I'd appreciate your input as always. In terms of reviewing pieces in progress, I prefer to finish a story before I show it to anyone, as my process is to work it out completely in my head and then to flesh it out as I (laboriously) write it. This works with short stories, but obviously not with a novel, where the structure is more complex and there's much more to keep in mind, so to speak. But by the time I'm ready to start writing a piece, I've worked out pretty much what I want to say and how I want to say it.
The critical feedback from readers (and it is indeed critical) is how they respond to the piece, if it hooks them and keeps them reading, and finally how they understand it (i.e., their interpretation). Good technical input is always valuable, but for me it's secondary to the above mentioned points.
Of course, I'm always interested in an exchange of ideas on fiction writing in general and I want to be of any help I can be to you in your work.

Topic: Still stumbling around (28 replies, posted in TheNextBigWriter Premium)
Thanks to all who reviewed my short story "Devoutly to Be Wished." I'm working on replying but am still stumbling around on how to do it exactly. Hopefully I'll get it in the next few days.
One feature I miss from the old site is the ability to see new postings in all categories (novel, short story, poetry) on one page, like the old home page. I feel like I'm doing more hunting and pecking here and feel I'm going to overlook postings of those not on my contact list.
Maybe this will resolve itself as I get used to the new features or perhaps I'm simply overlooking something.
