You guys are awesome. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your suggestions. This book is up for pre-sale on Amazon right now and I have to have the final copies in place by the 21st of this month so if I do any changes it will have to be soon. I will kick all these suggestions around for a bit. i appreciate the suggestion on the blurb as well. I've written two novels now and have to admit that synopsis and blurb writing is beyond me. I struggle mightily with it. Amy, I think I am going to use much of what you suggested, as always, thanks. By the way, does anyone else have a WIP they want me to review? I would like to start workshopping book 3 here.

Here is my blurb for book 2, any thoughts? "After discovering that he can enter the World of Books, 15 year-old Tommy Travers has accepted training under the Gifted and now must learn to control his new powers. He has already seen the devastating consequences of ignorance. The repercussions for his past decisions are not over. The escaped wizard Mephitis read his mind. He knows where the Gifted are. If he can just get his powers back the warehouse, the Gifted, the world, will be his. Tommy is the only one who can stop him, but first he must discover the secret that Amelia has been keeping from him all along."

Amy, I know it has been forever but sorry I missed you. I have moved to St George Utah now so no more Chicago conferences. I did go to LTUE in Provo Utah this year with Brandon Sanderson and a host of other greats and it was incredible. I was there for 3 days soaking it all in. I have been waiting to get my second book edited for forever and it is finally done. I am releasing book two to Kindle on Black Friday. I am going to workshop book 3 here on the site again as soon as I have the credits. I have 12 or so chapters written. What work would you like me to review? Anyone else looking for a review buddy? I would like 4 or 5 eyes on this and will be happy to reciprocate.

Amy. Quite a while back your husband worked on a possible cover for me but I wasn't ready to move on it. As i finally get ready to release book2 in my series I am wanting to change the cover and title for book 1 before doing so and I liked what your husband did. Can you please send me an email with your contact information? I have a few questions offline to ask you. Thanks, here is my email. robertjfluegel@gmail.com

I've been working on a query for my first book and thinking about the hook for the beginning. This is what I came up with, "When your greatest wish is granted, there is always a price to pay. Tommy has lived his dream, but in so doing has unwittingly cursed the world to certain destruction."
What do you think?

He also said that the first 4 books you write will suck and your 5th will mearly wreak. David Farland said pretty much the same, your first 1,00,000 words won't be very good but writers need to view them as their education. So in essence, write, and keep writing, and if you think it isn't very good that's okay, keep writing.

It's not a summary, it's a pitch.
This +1000. Many of these are good summaries but way too long. Remember too that you are not trying to summarize your plot, you're trying to pique the interest of the listener enough they will want to know more.
MichaelBrent Collings was at the conference I just attended talking about elevator pitches. He gave us the pitch for one of his best sellers which was, "Hooked, Peter Pan is a vampire, Wendy his intended victim and Hook is trying to save her." That was it. Any longer and he said you should go back to the drawing board.

Speaking of, at my last writer's conference man of the authors discussed the need for an elevator pitch for your book. For those not familiar that is one sentence describing the coolest part of your book. I would love to hear yours. To kick it off I am still working on mine but it goes something like this, "15 year old boy is sucked into a book and becomes the main character with real world consequences." What do you think and what is yours?

Actually one of the things I really want to do is start guest blogging. I have a few lined up but my goal is to write at least 1 a week. You'll never guess where I learned that?

I have outlined most of Book 3 and have written the first 3 chapters. I recently attended LTUE (Life, The Universe & Everything) in Provo UT and was just blown away. It was 3 days of awesomeness. LE Modessit, Brandon Sanderson, Shannon Hale, Kevin J Anderson and many other greats were there talking about every aspect of writing. I took 9 pages of notes and will be typing them up. Maybe once I'm done I'll be putting them up somewhere, perhaps on a thread here. Book 2 cover is almost done. i am re-doing book 1 cover before releasing book 2. I also have a publisher who has asked for a submission from book 1 so crossing my fingers there. If anyone would like me to write a guest blog for them on what I learned at LTUE, I would be happy to.

I had the same experience as Amy and have been trying to get back in for months. Finally got it figured out when Sol deleted my credit card off my profile. How is everyone doing?
