Topic: Hello

Hello all!
I'm Jon, and it's been twenty minutes since my last run on sentence...

I just wanted to take a quick moment to introduce myself. I'm an interior designer from Houston, Texas and this is my first serious attempt at writing, so please be kind! I look forward to interacting with fellow authors and am excited to have my work read. I also look forward to reading your submissions!

Re: Hello

Welcome aboard Jon,

This site is great if you use it correctly. We have very good writers and a few who have published. So, find the ones that you can work with and learn. I keep a "tips" file that I refer back to.

Have thick skin. People will make comments about your work that you might not appreciate, so keep what makes sense. But remember that you have to like your story at the end of the day. That was some advice given to me.

Do the contests. They're great. They stretch my mind.

Put more info into your Profile if you want. I want to know what your genre is and if you have a tech background or history (just a hobby?) or whatever.

I generally use the In-line Reviews. So, if I read a story of yours, please comment on at least a few of my comments so that I know what you're looking for. Some people aren't worried about -ly adverbs! And I hope to remember that. Many of the really good writers don't bother much on some technical grammar details.

Again, welcome aboard
George FLC

Re: Hello

Hello Jon, welcome!!!

I tend to forget about the forums.  What excites you about history?

For myself, I love to investigate the past as it lays foundations as to what we see today.

Primarily, I'm a Christian author, my favorite time periods include ancient history, American before the Revolution, and the early 1900s.

All the best, happy writing!!!  Elysse. smile smile

Re: Hello

Welcome, Jon.

I haven't been posting for a while, but I still do volunteer user support here and check in regularly, so feel free to send me a connection request for private messaging, or post any questions or issues you may have to the Premium forum. Someone else may respond before I even see it.

If you haven't already, please check out an article I posted in the Premium forum on tips for getting the most reviews of your writing. It's pinned near the top of the forum, so you can't miss it.

It's a small site right now (we're rebuilding the membership after a major server crash and letting folks trickle out for too long), although a number of us have been writing and posting on the site for well over a decade. There are also writers here who have published repeatedly yet still give freely of their time.

I'm hoping to (finally) resume posting the second draft of my apocalyptic thriller, the Emissary, this month. It's part one of a trilogy that tells my fictional interpretation of the end of the world, hopefully in a way that readers will find interesting (it uses a Catholic setting and characters for authenticity much the way Dan Brown does, although he's a bit more successful - for now - lol).

Please check out the book's content summary and prologue to see if you'd like to trade reviews. The prologue is intentionally high octane, with an Indiana Jones-style opening that you may enjoy.

Regardless, I'm happy to answer any site/writing questions I can.

Sorry for the late welcome. Happy New Year!
Dirk
