Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

The goal is to have a main thread in each book and have the overall picture connect in the last book. I've been writing the overall plot uncluttered by the single book plot. Trust me. I can meld them together.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Amy, I haven't reviewed The Satchel because I have nothing to add or criticize.  I do wonder, though, if you could make a book from these vignettes.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

It's a thought. It depends if I can think of enough situations to write about. I'm not interested in being morose and there is certainly enough material for that. It's just that I wouldn't be accurate if I made it all sunshine and light. So I'm torn. The sad parts are a bit too raw for me to write about.

Thoughts?

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Next chapter for Dictates is up. Took long enough. Why do I have nine days off and only find three hours to write?

If you write a chapter in 3 hours, you're good!  wink

I also reviewed The Satchel - loved it, it's a feel good-nice piece of writing!

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Eh, I just revised in three hours. That chapter has gone through more revisions than Joan River's face (said with all the truthfulness she would hopefully expect)

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

OS thanks for the encouragement about satchel :-)

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

There should be--has to be--some visible connection between the volumes.  And reading multiple stories should give the reader a chance at the clues.

I'll review you later chapter before midnight.  Then I have some nit-and-polish on the new prospective chapter (II/78).  Don't let that stop you if you want to look at it.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

The reminder I'm looking for is continuity.  We haven't seen Tazar's setting recently, so the place and the appurtenances (did I spell that right?) need just a sentence or so to bring us back.  Think about the scene switch cinematically.

The term I was looking for is 'establishing shot'.

Also, when Tazar leaves, some people will be losing their protector.  Someone should realize it.  The rough-born and Behira-guided Alda might be the one, or Tazar himself might speak.  If the Lance has any influence with the guards, it might be spent here.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

You think that Solace might be released at the same time as Tazar?  Interesting.  Give me a bit of time to think about that.  It would be ironic if his release price could be met by having certain people empty their pockets.  Something paltry like 50 gold might be enough to get him out of the prison.  No one values his life much, so the amount wouldn't be much.  Just too much for the prisoner to meet himself.

Hmmm.

Not the release, but the same oath from at least a couple of the master guards.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

PS I understand the 'establishing shot' concept.  Gotcha.  I might rewrite this one before I go on to the next chapter.  K suggested a good idea and I would start the next chapter in a different place if I go along with that.  It won't take too long.  Just one sit-down with some personal time with my computer.

Hey girl!

Tell me where to start...or pick back up. I'm gonna try to get my life back and that included reading YOU!

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Woohoo!  My Bimmy-girl is back on line!  I missed you!

I'm currently working on Dictates and Mandates.  Dictates is Jaylene's storyline (running at the same time as Kha and Anver's stories).  Mandates is my attempt at managing to integrate the stories and characters as they start to get back together, so it begins after the first three books have completed.  Don't be put off by the fact that Mandates doesn't have a Chapter 1.  It just means I haven't thought of how to start the story yet.

Cool, I've started both so I'll see where I left off. Missed you too!

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Is that a picture of your feet?  (curious minds want to know)

Haha...yes. I lost both my boots in the mud one day....oh what a day. You can read all my adventures on my Facebook page, Havens Homestead.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Went to your site and haunted it.  I see why you've been off the grid.  Ponds...house delivery...electricity...finding water...

Congratulations on your little piece of heaven!

Thanks...I'm not quite in love with it yet. I think too much happened and I'm just waiting for the next thing to unravel. LOL! But it's ours  and we have many years to make it a heaven!

Oh, if anyone is curious where I learned about armor and medieval crafts, here is fun link that was recently released.

In other words, how to hit each other with sticks and cook for 150 of your closest friends over a campfire.

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

I posted another short story about my son. Low effort and only one page long. Any thoughts?

Re: Acts/ Dictates/ Mandates/ Mantle - Amy's Thread

Hey Amy,

I looked and it seems I read everything you posted on mandates and dictates. I'm guessing it's all rewrite now? If so, I'll start from the beginning on all! Just say the word.
