Pamela, apologies not necessary.  We all run into stuff that gets in our way.  Take your time.  Mardew

Hi all.  I am so excited to be taking this class and in desperate need of the guidance that I am sure it will provide.

I've been attempting to write for about two years now and taken several classes, but I just can't seem to get anything published.  When I started this journey, with The Institute of Children's Literature, I was encouraged and assured I had what it takes to become a published writer.  Unfortunately, life keeps getting in the way and finding time to devote to this dream is very difficult.

To answer some of the questions posed;

1.  I have written a few short stories and articles, mostly aimed and young readers.  However, I have been working on my first historical fiction novel targeted towards Middle Graders.  Haven't had anything published yet, but keep trying.  Writing this book has been a dream now for three years and it seems to be getting harder and harder to do.

2.  Have been on this journey now for a little over two years and being that I am about to turn the big "60", I think it's messing with my head and I just can't seem to get myself organized.

3.  My current goal is really just to finish my book and then decide how to try to publish it.  I am actually leaning toward self-publishing, but the completion of my story will probably help me decided.

4.  I have submitted several stories to magazines and a few articles, but nothing has been accepted as yet.  Still trying hard.

5.  A few of my favorite authors are; John Jakes (I am really crazy about historical fiction), Agatha Christie (she keeps me in suspense and I would love to be able to do that as well) and Ken Follet.  Of course, I like a lot of other writers too.

My dream is to be able to finally get something published so that my self-confidence can be restored.  Having always been an avid reader, I've dreamed of taking people on a journey through books and hoping that my first attempt will, not only take some young readers on such a journey but will also give them a feel for how our wonderful country began.  (My story is about the American Revolution.)

In any case, I am happy to be here and looking forward to learning a lot.
