Topic: Grammar Monster

For anyone who needs this, here’s a great link to a website that can help you when you’re in a bind over how to punctuate, or which word to use.  I know some of you don’t need it and never make mistakes, but it’s a good reference for new writers or for those who want to brush up on grammar rules you may have forgotten, like myself.

It covers things on this list:
1.     Punctuation:  Apostrophes, colons, commas, dashes, hyphens, parentheses, semicolons, speech marks
2.    Punctuation test
3.    A widget for learning possessive apostrophes
4.    The parts of speech:  adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, interjections, nouns, pronouns, verbs
5.    Parts of speech test
6.    A widget for learning about the order of adjectives
7.    Easily confused words, such as advice and advise, passed and past, complement and compliment, further and farther, etc.
8.    Glossary of terms
9.    Origins of sayings and proverbs
10.    Interactive tests for you to take to improve your writing.

Re: Grammar Monster

Thanks. I'm marking both of those.  I'm terrible at punctuation. Especially commas.

Re: Grammar Monster

Thanks all. I went to Monster and found punctuation with quotations... I'm in! I use Grammarly which is pretty good.

Re: Grammar Monster

My Microsoft Word underlines questionable grammar in blue then gives me a drop-down menu with suggestions. It also provides me with suggestions on how to make my writing clearer. It's like 3 dollars a month, and worth every penny.

Hey, y'all... I first posted this message in 2018 (see date above).  I am quite sure more and better things have come along since then.  Technology and programs don't stand still.

Re: Grammar Monster

You're right, M. I use Grammerly as a back up since I can't count the times I've discovered a typo seconds after I've emailed a story to a publisher/competition.

LOL!  I did that just this morning.  I "edited" my editor... and you know how that goes... then sent it in to a publisher, only to discover a huge monstrous typo on the very first page, second paragraph.  I felt like an idiot.  And my edit was after running it through Grammarly one last time.
