The Great and Wonderful Southern Gothic Horror Roadshow: Preface

Written by: Wes Guptill

This piece was born out of an exercise that I and the members of my writing group, WWWLN (WritersWithWeirdLastNames), undertook. I devised an exercise that was meant to draw upon the writers' abilities to present characters in an interesting fashion; it has long been my opinion that if a writer can write about herself/himself well, then she/he can tackle any fictional character. So with that in mind, I asked all of the group members, myself included, to craft a short, creative bio piece. I produced a piece that I thought was clever, but apparently the fates and my Muse had other ideas. The original story was lost from my laptop, and my posting of the story was delayed. Setback turned to procrastination until my friend jolted me in her own special way. I thought better of the story I had forst penned, and decided to do something from the cuff. I wrote this piece last night, in about an hour and a half, and I apologize now for some of the stark imagery and the language. I have discussed it with my friend (thank you Work In Progress) and she thought that I should post it. It may well develop into something else, but for now, I'll be happy with a little feedback. Please feel free to shred, dice, and puree it- I invite it. If you would like to discuss it further, beyond the confines of the review screen, hit me in the Forums or you may email me @ wesguptill@hotmail.com. Read at your own risk...
