Something's Burning (formerly Scrap Box Songs)

This is a rework of the previous piece "Scrap Box Songs" to short form. It will likely land somewhere between a short story and a novella. If you've read before, you'll note that much of the backstory is now implied rather than explicit. The objectives for this part is to create a relationship with Penny and make you interested in taking this journey with her. There are some questions left unanswered - did you catch them? Please look at transitions - not my strong point - and make some suggestions if possible for tightening them up. Any nits, sp&g, etc. always appreciated.
