Fortune's Fool (OOB #6)
Written by: new_england
Although part of a series of vignettes, these pieces with common characters can stand alone. In "Fortune's Fool," we meet a fortune teller who gets the tables (and the cards) turned when a forlorn girl (Cathy of OOB #2) comes in to have her palm read. Previous pieces: "Eureka, He Says (#1)" (The carnie boys take a vicious beating on the beach late one night) "Cathy Who Walks With Ghosts (#2)" (A girl stalks her youthful spectre in a summer carnival town) "Trophy (#3)" (Clare, frustrated that her "trophy" has been taken by another girl, sets eyes of conquest on Skip) "Buzz (#4)" (Remember the first time you got drunk?) "Stage-Struck (#5)" (Skip's first sexual experience, like most first sexual experiences, does not go smoothly) I'm looking for overall impact and nitty gritty stuff here. What works? What needs work in "the shop"? Thanks for any and all feedback.
