The Gnome in the Tapestry

I have the body of a goblin-kin, but even more shocking, is that I chose to become this monster. I was a soldier who believed in honor and discipline, but those two concepts are not even understood in the society I must now embrace. Two images from my past haunt my present: my betrothed, Altherie Evenal, and the gnome in my tapestry. I understand why Altherie is constantly in my thoughts, but the gnome from my tapestry is an enigma. Although he was only a wall hanging, he seems as real as the woman I love. Could there be a connection between my obsession with his image and my current predicament? Or is he the key to my release, my salvation from the body of the monster I now inhabit?
