A Radical Cure

Written by: sonny

A story within a story. Disgruntled at having had the newspaper he wanted to read snatched from under his nose, Harley Street physician Tom Hull is enraged by a boorish colleague who drinks his sherry and expounds new-fangled medical theories. The case history embedded in this farce was first published in 1841, foreshadowing the theories of Sigmund Freud and his followers by more than half a century. It reappeared in the "Bulletin of the History of Medicine," Vol. XLV, No. 4, July-August 1971, under the title "Jealousy of a Seven-Year-Old Child Followed by a Radical and Unexpected Recovery."
