I AM NOT MUCH OF A HERO
Written by: Cynthia Allison
I wrote this last year when my father was in decline. I had promised him , before I was diagnosed with Parkinson's, that I would do everything I could to see his wish of dying at home was fulfilled. The only fear he had was of languishing in a nursing home. This was the lowest time in my life; my "dark night of the soul". The doctors would not release my father to go home... He spent his last days in a beautiful Hospice setting with his dog. We hung his art on the walls of his lovely room, and he was surrounded by his loved ones and friends. I have been reading mishmont's "Alzhiemer's Diary" which has really struck a chord within me. I sent her this poem, and she suggested I post it. I expect to see her bittersweet journal on the Time's best seller List one day - #1.
