![]() | CHECKMATE | W. Lois | Novel | 1 | n/a | Mar 16, 2010
Summary:Justin De Mann is on a mission to uncover the mystery behind the missing children in the Keto Archive. He knows the children are somehow linked to scientists who attended a research conference in 1975 in Buenos Aires, where a pact was made to pursue biotechnology in agriculture, without knowledge or evidence of the risks to human life and the environment. Some of the children who went missing are now adults but their whereabouts remain unknown; others continue to go missing including children Justin knows personally. The Keto Archive was given to Justin by a stranger who left no name or contact information, nor any clear explanation of how the children are connected to biotechnology. Justin is a journalist and a long time advocate of natural and organic foods in a world that is dominated by two agribusiness giants who hold patents to virtually all seeds used in biotech agricultural production worldwide, and have formed a cartel. The only remaining organic producer is LaPlaya, who grow their crop in well secured Greenhouses, and have their main production center in a northern Pacific Archipelago. There is constant economic warfare between LaPlaya and the Biotechnology Agribusiness Cartel. Justin works with two medical sociologists, Cara Frankel at UC San Diego, and Neema Borg at the Strategies for Change Project in South Africa, and with molecular biologist Chandler Joubert in Mexico to uncover the health and environmental risks of biotechnology. The enigmatic Brother John guides and finances Neema Borg’s research and asks questions, which raise the fearful prospect of biotechnology as a weapon against democracy at best, or at worst an inevitable march to human extinction. Will the data they collect spark popular protest and convince governments to end the free reign of biotechnology in the markets? And will it unlock the mystery of the Keto Archive? Please focus on the substance (plot, character development, coherence, style etc.,) of the novel, not so much grammatical corrections. I thank you for your comments in advance.Chapters:

![]() | The Kralove Epic | westpdx | Novel | 3 | n/a | Mar 13, 2010
Summary:This novel is sort of a cross between literary fiction and suspense. I like to think Sebastian Faulks (Charlotte Gray) meets Ken Follett (Eye of the Needle) But not as good! Any feedback on the writing would be greatly appreciated. I know it is not the typical "literary" style many might be used to, but I am trying to avoid the thriller genre with this novel, in the way that Sebastian Faulks and Barry Unsworth write. Thanks in advance!Chapters:
![]() | Escape Deception | Carolyn Kuczek | Novel | 6 | n/a | Mar 8, 2010
Summary:I have a request. Skip Chapter 1, Edit and read Chapter 1, Rewrite. Skip Chapter 2 - Megan Returns Home and read Chapter 2, Rewrite - Megan Gets Off the Bus and Returns Home. The rest of the chapters follow always reading the rewrites instead of the originals. I'm sorry the order is so confusing. I don't know how to do it any differently, other than to explain it to you. This order gives you the most current chapters. A bit about the story: Megan McKenna suffers from Parkinson's disease, but this is the least of her worries when she is convinced her life is being threatened.Chapters:
