Kind of testing the waters on this... not finished by any stretch of the imagination. i'm fond of the main character, but not sure if he works, so... What i'd like from you folks is an honest and specific critique --- don't pull punches. Give me something i can work with regarding dialog, plot, characterization(s). Basically, tell me if this would keep you reading or if i should relegate this to the dustbins of the jump drive...

In October, 1951, we meet five year old Louise Stokes, a product of a very dysfunctional family comprised of an alcoholic, abusive father, a mother who is basically a doormat, and a sister, older by fifteen months who is sometimes protector, sometimes nemesis. Just before Louise's tenth birthday, her parents, Riley and JoEllen, leave her and her sister, Christine, in the care of their grandmother while they go to Chicago to escape the scandal caused by her father's illicit affair. Louise settles into a quieter way of life, but when the school year ends, she is transplanted once again, reunited with her parents. As a teenager, Louise meets an older man and begins a relationship with him. When she finds herself pregnant, she must make a choice. Warning: this novel has at least four levels, is full of sex and violence, and is very fast paced. The Well of Women is at risk, as is the Tourney which Rhiannon wishes to use for pride and peace. But there are riots against offworlders, who the people blame for the rash of mother hate that is spreading through the land. And there is the mysterious Maelan--supposed guardian of the Well, whose malfunction may explain the evil that is afoot.
