 | POLLY BRILLIANT'S WILD DANCE | nonimou | Novel | Commercial Fiction | 1 | n/a | Jun 28, 2008 |
Summary:POLLY BRILLIANT’S WILD DANCE is a semi-fictional novel about a middle-aged Jewish woman — a female fusion of Zorba the Greek and Odysseus. From birth until age fifty-five, when she moves to Greece, her traveling companions have been disenchantment, restlessness, and internal conflict.
Polly’s journey propels us through Boston, Berkeley, Barcelona, Las Vegas, Athens, Mykonos, and Kythera.
After years of self-discovery and Greek influence, Polly masters the technique of self-love and acceptance while learning how to dance through life. She returns to the States, her home within, and the circle complete.

 | The Wisdom of Repugnance | Jeni Decker | Novel | Humor | 5 | n/a | Jun 27, 2008 |
Summary:For your consideration:
The Wisdom of Repugnance follows a necrophiliac mortician exploring his paraphelia with a therapist, while the death of his father rattles the matriarch of his family.
... a brief synopsis of the piece.
Larry has a problem. He likes dead people... a bit too much, and with his job at a local morgue, that makes things a bit dicey. Meanwhile, Daddy's busy at home dying while he discusses his sexual par aphelia with an expert, who fills him in on the 'Wisdom of Repugnance', that internal shudder that we are all 'supposed' to have that helps us differentiate between, say, someone who loves kids, and someone who LOVES kids. Throw in three short women, polar opposites of others written more 'delicately balanced' in years past under the quill of a Mr. Edward Albee and what you have are three crass women who could reside in any local trailer park or suburb, grappling with past and present issues while watching the family patriarch die.
... why this play might be of interest I can't think of anything more universally global than our shared, and oft shamed sexual peccadilloes...

Summary:This is an autobiographical account of the effects of childhood sexual abuse on an adult survivor. The story is raw, and some details may be disturbing, but they are necessary. I normally do not write autobio pieces, so this story is very personal for me. I want feedback. I want to know how it makes the reader feels. My goal is for the reader to develop some understanding of the pain that abuse inflicts on the victim decades after the attack. I intentionally kept the story narrowly focused. It is purposely short and direct to make an emotional impact. It's impossible to examine the all the effects of such a crime on one's spirit, family, career, faith, and outlook of life. The story is not meant to be uplifting or inspirational. It's simply an account of a tragedy, and an unexpected consequence I've experienced.Chapters: |
